Bulls point guard Derrick Rose believes free-agent swingman Tracy McGrady would be a good fit for the team.

"I think that if he comes along he can help our team," Rose said Friday. "A player like him, with his experience and how he plays, I think he'll help us."

McGrady's effectiveness will depend on his left knee. He had microfracture surgery about a year and a half ago.

"If he just gives us half of what he's got, we'll be all right," Rose said. "He'll definitely help us if he gets on the team.

"He was good, and he was my favorite player when I was in sixth or seventh grade and he came into the league. Then in high school, that's when LeBron [James] came, and he was my favorite player then. Now, I'm my own favorite player

I'm down with bringing T-Mac. He's like 30, coming off injuries but we need a Shooting Guard and if he can come back strong, injury free? That could be very helpful, he finished like the last 20 games last season and I think he averaged like 15ppg, idk...

I'm down tho.

well i sympathize with him. he idolized the guy growing up. Sadly, he's terrible right now, and we dont need another larry hughes on our bench.

Damn 4real? well I know he had like 3 20point games... So he showed glimpses of the old T-Mac. We need a shooting guard, And I would rather take T-mac than Brewer.

Rose-McGrady-Deng-Boozer-Noah sounds good..lol
Krover, Gibson, Watson, Brewer and Kurt Thomas coming off the bench?
I mean Boozer, Rose, and Noah are probably going to make the All-Star team (hopefully)...
That's a good competitive playoff team right there. If the chemistry's there, maybe great things could happen towards the end of this upcoming season.

unless TT goes crazy, brewer will start.
korver and watson will eat up the remaining minutes at the 2 guard, and we really only need a spot up shooter at 2. i'd prefer mason, house, or butler.

Rose was specifically asked about McGrady, what's he going to say "no way don't want that scrub"?

Never underestimate experience.

You guys are sleeping on McGrady. I say sign em. If he stays healthy and the chemistry is there, big things can happen. I have hope in T-Mac. If not T-Mac than who? We should have signed Mason instead of Brewer. And should have signed McGrady as well. Which we still have a chance to do.

I think that's true man. If you read what Rose said after reading your post, he doesn't really sound that enthusiastic.

I think you're sleeping on Brewer. Brewer's a lockdown defender, Mason is more of a Hinrich mold defender. T-Mac...I'm not sure if he knows what defense is. If T-Mac was guaranteed not to be a team cancer or anything, I'd gladly take him for the minimum or something like that, but there's not guarantee of that, so I'll pass.

Mr. Stein has spoken...

Marc Stein saying McGrady WILL sign with the Bulls under 2 conditions.

1. Health
2. Willingness to come off bench...

If this is true...Brewer is your starter and most likely McGrady will back up Deng for a bulk of his minutes...

Shakes...

Show me the distribution of minutes on this one...should be interesting...

Brewer is a lock down defender who now has the best defensive coordinator of the past 10yrs as his head coach. Not to mention he's 10x's the athlete T-Mac is now. McGrady will be the SF, not the SG. He just simply can't play that position anymore. He doesn't have the speed, athleticism, or lateral quickness to compete out there. I'm praying that T-Mac has finally realized that this is his last shot & if he F's this up his career is over. However, he MUST NOT use this as a "I'm out to prove something" platform. If he plays within the system, hustles, defends, & keeps his damn mouth shut, then maybe he'll actually be able to sustain his career as a solid bench player. This is fairly unprecedented territory for a star of his previous magnitude so I'm not holding my breath on him being a game changer for us.

Well at least he's been told in no uncertain terms that he's coming off the bench ... still don't like it, but if he's willing to agree to sign up for a limited role then I can at least hope it's not going to kill us.

Damned if I know how they're going to make the minutes work out. When healthy everyone is going to have to take less. Especially with TMac being primarily a SF now. It pretty much means that Korver plays all his minutes at the SG.

Maybe something like:

Rose 36/Watson 12
Brewer 24/Korver 18/Watson 6
Deng 30/McGrady 18

I guess the other option is that we look to go small and run in stretches and we'll see lineups with all of Rose/Watson/Brewer/Deng out there at once, which would push the minutes up above what I've listed.

Cutting Deng's minutes would be nice for his health, although whether that causes tension who knows. I also think Deng is a significantly better player than TMac right now, so it's not a good move for winning games. I guess if TMac keeps Deng healthy for the playoffs he's achieved something.

Although the cynic can say that once Deng and McGrady have their injuries there will be plenty of minutes to go around.

hopefully rose and deng both worked on their 3 pt shooting this summer, so we'll have so decent outside shooting. adding brewer and t-mac makes rose, deng, and korver our outside threats.

Well supposedly Rose has a consistent 3pt shot now, so we'll see how that goes. I think if we just shove Deng into the corners, he'll be a decent 3pt shooter from there. The corner 3 is about as far as those 1 step inside the arc shots that he takes, so that shouldn't even be a problem for him. He should be consistent from there. If that is the case, we have a fairly decent 3pt shooting threat in our starting lineup.
