Da Coach!! Man, if you win a Super Bowl in Chicago you could retire and be set for life. I bet Ditka can go to any restaurant in Chicago and get a free meal.

"There was a perception for a long time -- it wasn't perpetrated by me -- that I was not a Bears fan. Nobody in the world has more of a right to be a Bears fan more than me," Ditka said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN Chicago 1000. "I don't care if I was fired or traded, I was drafted by Mr. [George] Halas, I played for him, the last two championships [the Bears] won [in 1963 and 1985] I was a player and a coach on them. Is that the best thing in the world? No, but I'm just saying nobody has more of a right to be a fan than me.

The Bears recently announced that Ditka's No. 89 would be the last jersey to be retired in the foreseeable future. The Bears have retired the most numbers of any team in the NFL.

The Bears will retire Ditka's number during a ceremony at a Dec. 9 game against one of Ditka's former teams, the Dallas Cowboys, at Soldier Field on "Monday Night Football."

Similar to the Hawks.
Great point! I've been noticing these things lately. Interestingly enough, the Hawks are lower on the todem pole for fan popularity, but the other Chicago teams are learning from what they did, and are doing.

The chicago franchises definitely plaid a lot of attention to the Hawks this past season. Even the players felt inspired by the title run, and saw the parade and all that afterwards and it ignited a fire in them. At least I hope so.

The Hawks have an excellent personnel dept. I wouldn't expect anything to change soon and I can't believe we stole Detroit's front office. It's great to see Ditka back at Lake Forest - people should appreciate him, because he won't be around forever.

Nothing wrong with the coach inviting DA coach to a practice. The coach understands that DA coach makes DA meatballs very very happy.

It's just hard to dislike Ditka to me. It's a bygone era. I have a lot of memories from the 80s, but never really saw him revolutionize his position.

Ryan is deserving of credit for his defensive scheme, for sure. He wasn't the team leader though. Ryan and Ditka are both priceless in my mind and you should definitely throw Finks in there as the one who made it happen. Those were the days and it should have happened longer. I don't want to say anything negative about Mike these days, but egos were definitely a problem.

Well I like Ditka, he was a PERFECT fit for that team and so was Buddy. That team was full of personalities, leaders, and egos. Buddy was the leader of the defense and Ditka the offense. But in reality the whole team was full of leaders, and somewhat psychotic ones =)

The whole team was bonkers and I loved it. I remember going to Platteville as a kid and the practices and players were hilarious !!! Jimmy Mac showing up on his moped 30 minutes late to every practice an Ditka screaming at him while Jimmy Mac couldn't care less, PRICELESS. God I miss that team. They had a well oiled asylum running.

Buddy saying "**** you, this is my defense." to Ditka. CLASSIC!

I know the history, what a bunch of personalities. That's really unlikely to happen in this age. Buddy was putting himself out there talking to Mike like that.

I watch that shit once a year or so. He was so combative the reporters were physically scared. I wish I was old enough to have seen him play.

There were some moments with Morris that were hilarious, but Mike loved Johnny.
