No, we do NOT need Melo, and I'm sick of hearing about him on every Bulls forum.

The problem here is not whether or not we should trade Noah for Melo; Melo is hands down a better player than Joakim Noah...and I LOVE Noah.... The problem is that Melo doesn't fit into the Bulls like Noah does. Noah provides a LOT of intangibles that Melo doesn't. Meanwhile we have a player blossoming and becoming (IMO) a much better player than Carmelo Anthony, in Derrick Rose. Why bring in Melo, take the ball out of Rose's hands (which makes Noah a lot worse too, should we be able to get Melo and keep Joakim).

Noah is an All-Star center with the ball in Rose's hands. I have a hard time thinking he averages a double double if he's watching Melo isolate all game.

Wonder were Lefty is now that more and more people are seeing things the way I saw them weeks ago. Melo is great, but the Bulls are fine without him and losing Taj, JJ, Deng, and 2 Picks would kill all our depth. What happens if Boozer gets hurt again, and he will and we have to start Scalabrine. LMAO. Also, i do not like Melo/Rose together. We need a shooter at the 2 guard and we will be just fine. Perhaps Stephen Jackson or O.J. Mayo.

Not just a shooter, but a creator. A guy who can get his own shot off the dribble. Mayo yes, Jackson...NO!!!!!!!

I would prefer Mayo as well, but Jackson would not be all that bad if he did not cost much. He is an upgrade from Bogans and Brewer. Brewer's shot is nasty bad and Bogans is average at best.

A Jackson/Deng/Korver rotation at the 2-3 spot would really spread the floor for Derrick up top and Boozer and Noah below.

I'm getting ready to do the show, but I just had to respond to the bolded before we go live:

1) If they're intangible how can they be 1) definitively positive and 2) known to be given in greater amounts by one player over another?

2) That's completely ludicrous, and way overstating Derrick Rose and his abilities at present, and more than likely his potential as well.

:obama:

You're still arguing the same asinine point that you were weeks ago, though it comes as no surprise that you would pat yourself on the back for stating the completely obvious in "well, we don't have one of our best players now, but if we traded for a really good player and then that same guy that was hurt gets hurt again, that would be bad". No shit. But let me ask you this: what happens if the Bulls don't trade for Carmelo Anthony and Boozer gets hurt again? Caveat lector: it is imperative that you remove your head from your ass before responding to that question (i.e. please don't grossly overrate Taj fucking Gibson).

he's on a better contract and he's younger. jackson is becoming old. it might be true that his body is going to demand that he play sf.

If we trade Noah, it'll hurt us in the long run. Noah > Carmelo

If we trade Noah, it'll hurt us in the long run. Noah > Carmelo

Carmelo and Noah are both established winners in this league and in college. I think, as most Bulls' fans do, that Noah's passion about winning and effort is nearly unmatchable.

But Melo > Noah.

I'm now firmly against the idea of giving up Joakim Noah for Anthony (for anybody other than Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, or *maybe* Dwyane Wade). I used to be somewhat open-minded on the issue, but I like the direction the Bulls will be able to go via draft picks if we didn't make a trade for Anthony.

But 'Melo is obviously the more valuable player. But not by as much as some people seem to believe but it's true.

In the case of the Bulls, Noah is far more valuable than Melo as individual players. In the circumstance that Melo was switched with Noah, the Bulls would be a worse team:

Noah, Asik
Boozer, Gibson, Johnson
Deng, Korver
Brewer, Bogans
Rose, Watson

vs

Boozer, Asik (tons of size on defense and the boards goes missing)
Gibson, Johnson
Anthony, Deng, Korver
(this position gets better but not by much relative to what they lose from both their C and PF positons)
Brewer, Bogans
Rose, Watson

I'm not saying the trade would be Noah straight-up for Melo.

I'm just saying that Noah is more valuable to the Bulls than Melo would be if Noah was not there at all.

Offense: Noah is better than the average NBA center at all-around scoring and is a decent passer. 'Melo blows him away in this category, even though his shot selection tends to be questionable at times.

Defense: Noah and he blows 'Melo away in this category. He's incredibly long with good timing and quick hands to get steals, blocks, and contest the KG's, Gasol's, and Duncan's of the league. 'Melo is a halfway decent defender who sometimes has lapses and blown assignments. He also likes to gamble for steals, much like Ronnie Brewer (only not quite as fast and timely in his reactions).

Rebounding: 'Melo is a very good rebounder and gets between 8 and 9 per-game at both forward positions (not bad at all). But Noah is still dominant over him in this category, and is very capable of getting you a consistent 10-11 rebounds per-game even against teams as big as the Lakers. He tends to dominate against teams with bad rebounding.

sidenote:
The Bulls' offensive rebounding has been the tops in the NBA for over a year now thanks to mainly Noah and Deng. This team actually tends to give up a fair amount of offensive rebounds of their own, but opposing teams have awful times just trying to box out Noah, Gibson, and Deng. Boozer isn't really that kind of player who can get you big offensive rebounds, but he will box out all NBA PF's to not blow any defensive boards if he can help it.
