I hope I'm wrong, but if the Bulls can squeek by the Hawks, they will lose in 5 to Miami.

It's so sad that so many Chicago sports teams have been so bad for so long That when a good team comes along, so many Chicago fans spend the season fearing the worst and can't enjoy it.

Last year most people were saying the Bears would go 6-10 or 7-9 and they made it to the NFC Championship. There was the same negativity during the Blackhawks championship run. ("Mark my words. This series is over.") I think if these people watch every game they have a tendency to focus on what is wrong with the team, and give it more weight than what is right. No offensive line, no #1 receiver, Bogans, Boozer.

It is possible for a Chicago team to be "that good." The White Sox recently won a World series, the Blackhawks, a Stanley Cup. The Bears made it to a Super Bowl with Rex Grossman!

The Heat are a very good team, this year, but so are the Bulls and defense wins Championships. It'll be a tough series that I think could go either way but as long as 2 players step up to help out Rose, the Bulls have a chance to win each game, especially at home.

3-0 vs. the Heat. Don't count them out, yet.

I come in peace! I always enjoy reading other teams message boards to see their fans opinions on the series. It sure has been a great series so far and I'm hopeful for a intense game 7, as there is nothing better in all of sports.

I have noticed that most everyone on here is already talking as if the bulls had already won the series. I think most people assume that the bulls are invincible b/c they are the #1 seed. I believe that confidence comes from the Jordan era and that is understandable, but it's not that easy to win championships. Take it from an Atlanta Braves fan. We had the best record in baseball 8 times in the last 20 years and we only have one championship to show for it. Losing to inferior teams almost every time. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

P.S. I do believe the Bulls will win the series, but I'm clinging to hope as all Hawks fans are.

Thanks for coming to remind us not to get overconfident because obviously it's not over until it's over when you are only up 3-2. However, when the Bulls play at their best, there is no way for your Hawks to beat them.

Welcome, A-T-L. I get what you are saying. I haven't assumed that this series is already over and I said in an earlier post "But first they have to get past Atlanta ..." (post #23)

The premise of this thread (and the title) is "Does it matter if the Bulls beat the Hawks" so the discussion is about how far the Bulls can go if they beat the hawks. I'm not taking anything for granted, but history shows that the ream that wins game 5 goes on to win the series 83% of the time. You still have a one in 6 chance of winning based on those odds :)

But we aren't talking about the Bulls/Hawks series in this particular thread.

A-T-L, who do you think will win the Eastern Conference Championship series...the Bulls or the Heat?

Tough to say. I would like you guys to destroy everyone else you play. It only makes the hawks look better. But I think with their defense the Bulls can beat anyone.

I am optimistic about 3 things when it comes to Heat/Bulls.

1. They aren't 140 years old with a one armed point gaurd.

2. Wade won't be able to drag Rose down to the floor & rip his arm out like he did with Rondo. Seriously how is no news outlets bringing that little nugget up?

3. That defense that has beaten Queen James all those years? He now works for Chicago. So in a sense. Lebron will have to face Boston one more round.

Plus, Chicago has a much more balanced team than Miami. We shall see if any of this helps Chicago. I just hope I make it through this series alive. It going to be a stresser.

Lebron almost beat the Celtics by himself in 2008. People forget that. Whether Wade will drag Rose down is consequential, it might happen it might not.

It's pretty ridiculous how the media is all over the Heat's success and pretty much declaring that they'll be in the Finals without any trouble while dismissing the Bulls as a fluke. To that sense, it makes beating the Hawks tonight even more important. Time to start proving the haters wrong. Hopefully tonight we start playing some consistent good basketball.

Same can be said about every team in the league.

If you are referring to that first statement- yep; hence the term obviously. But I think there are a couple of teams that can beat the Bulls at their best.

From a victory stand point it would be great to see them finally get to the conference finals.

However, the way they are playing they have no shot against Miami. So does it really matter?

Personally, & this will sound a bit strange. I would rather lose to the Hawks that have to watch them lose to the Heat. Sounds stupid I know.

Just putting this out there to see what other fellow Bullies think.

I guess it depends on the person. I would like to see them go as far as possible. I want them to beat the Hawks and get to the conference finals against the Heat. I don't care if they lose to the Heat. It is a good experience for these guys to see what they are made of and what needs to be done to improve the team next year. If we lose to the Heat, so be it. Besides there is always a chance that we could beat them too. So why would we not want to have the chance to prove what we can do.

This

To answer the question, no I guess it really doesn't matter. The Bulls weren't even supposed to be playing the Heat in ECF. The Magic were supposed to be better than the Bulls. The Celtics, hell even the Bucks were supposed to be better than the Bulls. It was supposed to be Miami and Boston beating LA to win the title.

The fact they've come this far is great.

It will be disappointing if this run ends without winning the Finals, but the Bulls did better than anyone expected them to.

2005 White Sox - I was on board all season, including when they almost tanked to the Indians. Their starting pitching was unbelievable. I never lost confidence.

2010 Blackhawks - On board all season, I thought they would win the #1 seed and was pissed at the Sharks for stealing it at the end. Never lost confidence.

2011 Blackhawks - Knew they were going to lose, so it wasn't a choke job.

Bears? Not a Bears fan. I knew the 2010 Packers would win the Super Bowl. They are way too talented on offense and defense.

This years Bulls team - They look good, not great. Just like in hockey, the playoffs are a different beast. I hope they prove me wrong, but I don't see them lasting more then 5 games vs Miami. Sorry if that isn't your opinion, but it is mine.

It doesn't mean I don't enjoy the victories. I enjoy as much as possible. No need to assume.

I learned something about this Bulls team over these last 2 games.

the media is saying they are just like the Cavs with Lebron. "Rose needs another all-star. Even Michael had Scottie." "Rose takes too many shots. He can't do it all by himself." "They need a second primary scorer."

In game 5, trailing by a point, the Bulls came back and won convincingly with 3 bench players (Gibson, Brewer and Asik) while Noah and Boozer sat and cheered them on. That is a testament to their depth and the quality of their bench players.

In game 6 Rose scored only 19 points. He created space for his teammates and found the open man, and the Bulls still won by 20 points.

We don't have a second scorer, but we have a bunch of players who can score. One night it's Deng, another night it's Boozer. Sometimes it's a combination of Noah, Gibson, Korver, and maybe even Bogans or Thomas. If you are going to stop Rose, you can't stop everybody else. Rose can beat you with 40+ points, or he can beat you with his ball handling. It's like playing 6 on 5.

If they can continue to play defense at a high level, they just need 2 players to get hot offensively and they will win the game.

Any 2 will do.

I understand. I wasn't talking about you specifically. The tone of your post just reminded me in general of a certain kind of Chicago sports fan. That's why I was careful to say "many Chicago fans," because much of what I said would not apply to most people (yourself included)

But some of it applies to some people. :)
