Okay to change up the discussion from the Osgood thread and just for inane debate that wont amount to dick

If JT's career ended today due to injury (knock on wood and all things that are good luck so it doesn't happen)

Does he make it to the hall of fame?

Now if there is some minimum criteria to make the hall I don't know about it so I am assuming he would be eligible in what 4 years?

For me I really don't know if he goes or not. The massively shortened career hurts him big time but on the only major championship he didn't win was an NCAA Frozen Four and a Memorial Cup (which he never had a chance to play for). Olympic Gold, U18 Gold, World gold, Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe. The hardware makes it worth at least putting him up for consideration

If his career ended today? No - he hasn't played long enough. If he puts up the same stats for another 5 years then yes. The Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe would seal the deal. Would the committee even look at 'outside' awards such as Olympics and World? I would think no as it's outside the NHL.

JT was a shoo-in as an embryo.

After he brings home about 5 more Stanley Cups to Chicago, I would say yes.

It's called the Hockey Hall Of Fame. It is NOT called the NHL Hall Of Fame. They do look outside of only the NHL. Although the NHL has become the main grading criteria...and probably righfully so.

let's just say this about JT...so far so good. Olympic Gold, Olympic MVP, Stanley Cup, Conn Smyth, 2 Junior World Championships Gold, World Championship Gold, World under 17 Gold. And there will be many more to come.

The kid has already left his mark on the NHL and on International hockey and hockey in general. He has more hardware than a lot of people already inducted or about to be.

Thats the reason for the thread, the kid already has conquered hockey. Only thing left is to win more cups and hopefully go down as one of the greatest players of his generation

Too early to say for sure although I like his chances. Although I think it's pretty safe to say he'll be the last hawks player to ever wear the #19.

If he plays a full career, he's going to the hall the first time he's on the ballot. That I have no doubt.

Well, that and reputable stats will get him in. Which I do think will come.

Absolutely, the HHOF looks at all contributions towards the sport of hockey, otherwise Tretiak would never be in there.

He has certainly inspired a lot of kids that's for sure and sure has impressed a multitude of hockey critics esp fans of other teams. Hard pressed to find a Jonathan Toews hater out there. Even the hardest moronic Canucks fans can't find anything negative to say about the guy and have nothing but positive words. Don't think you can say that about the Crosby's and the Ovechkins. Toews just seems to do everything hockey lovers like to see. Hopefully that continues..I don't see why it wouldn't. The only knock you ever hear on Jonathan is that he sometimes is a bit too hard on himself. While that can get you off your game sometimes it is something guys at that age and level of compete go through from time to time. I assure you when he is in his 30's he will calm down in that aspect a bit.

I think that is also a key to getting elected in also. I think it takes a rare breed of player to inspire the next generation. When you hear newly drafted kids say who their favorite player was growing up 9 times out of 10 it's a player who has been or who will soon be elected into the hall of fame. That includes the European kids also who look up to the Europeans who have been elected or who will or should be. I think in the near future a lot of these kids will be mentioning Toews. And that will have to do with his NHL legacy but also the legacy he has left in international levels (and even college).

I'm going to entertain myself with this thread:

As of now?

No.

At the rate he's going after 1000 games he'll have mathematically 884 points (again his so far career points per game average). This number is kind of fluky because he's not even in his "prime" so to speak, so he could put up seasons of 100+ points and up his points per game average.

Still, he has all the makings of a future HOF, but so did Lindros and Jimmy Carson (not comparing him to them at all, just saying careers can take interesting turns, especially with the increased concussion rate).

All I know is that JT has an exciting career still ahead of him and I'm glad I get to watch it.

have to be honest never heard of Jimmy Carson but know Lindros. Toews already has something Lindros doesn't...a cup. That is the big discussion about Lindros making the hall, no cup. JT has it.

JT needs to get some personal hardware over his career and be at least close to a PPG player. A Selke or more and Hart ought to do.

I don't know the "discussion" about Lindros making the Hall, but it shouldn't be about if he has a Cup win or not. Again, it's just wrong to judge a player on that. There's sooooo many other things that play into whether or not a player even gets a chance at winning a Cup that are completely out of his control. The real discussion should be on his injuries, and how much they affected his play.

As for Toews, if he could just get off to a decent start at the beginning of each season, he would easily be a point per game player, so that would take care of the points issue, as long as he stays relatively clear of major injury the rest of his career. If he does, he'll make it. The youngest member and one of only 20 something players to ever be in the Triple Gold Club. Was the only college player on that gold medal winning Team Canada's 07' World Championship roster, which should say a lot. Stood out on and won best forward of the Olympics while playing on one of the best teams ever assembled in terms of talent. He has some incredible achievements already this early on.
