I will keep disagreeing that the VJJ pick was a bad pick. He contributes value as a returner. His issues on O need to be corrected. Learning to cover a football, get behind your shoulder pads, and seek contact should have been ingrained in him, but it is what running backs do.

He is a 3rd round pick that is frustrating, but he was a 3rd round pick. Getting value in a phase is fine. If he washes out, he washes out. Big deal. If he can get the fumbling corrected with propeller drills that a JV coach teaches, fine.
I called this out before the season but I hate his stride.

He’s a kick returner and I literally hate the way he runs. If he was 8 I would try to fix him.

He has that long stride. I don’t think he’s ever been coached as a running back. Way back in the day, the first thing I would do is teach my players to get behind their pads. I always had dudes who thought they could hot dog it or juke and I was like, nope. You get one move and then get behind your pads, seek contact, and truck a dude.

He’s a playmaker that’ll cause you to lose. **** that.

this is why leatherwood was not given the RT job after last weeks performance...everyone knew or should have known that the guy would need to get rebuilt from a technique perspective...he is far from a finished piece and then to top it off he needs to maintain that consistency...if mono hadnt shelved him early on maybe he could have threatened for a starting RT job but now its can he be a the swing tackle?

They didn't trade for him and pick up his salary just to give up on him after 1.3 games.

Surely, they won't repeat the same mistakes as OAK coaches will they? ....leave him alone on an island vs the opposition's best DLs?

I didn't see yesterday, but am reading/hearing they should've chipped to help him, however currently, the entire OL is in shambles.

Agreed, that it's hard to throw him out there as a liability to JF, but they do need to give him reps. ?‍♂️

Listening to 670 today and they are projecting Borom as the LG tomorrow and that Leatherwood is done.

Here is what I don't get. Leatherwood played on the left side in college for the majority of the time. Oakland immediately moved him to the right side and he was a failure. Comes to the Bears and they do the exact same thing.

Why do NFL teams constantly insist on playing O line players in positions that are not comfortable to them? IMO Leatherwood should be at LG tomorrow. See what he can do. He just might do ok playing on the left side where he is more comfortable.

NFL coaching.........Yes....we know you have played nose tackle all through high school and college but we are moving you to defensive end. If you don't produce Menards is hiring.

Leatherwood is an enigma. He was a 5 star recruit. He played all 4 years at Bama. He saw quite a bit of playing time as a freshman. He started at RG his sophomore year and the last two at LT.

He won the Outland Trophy. He has to be better than what we‘ve seen so far. I remember reading several places he would need to kick inside in the NFL.

Right now, he’s been slow off the snap and his kick slide looks like a struggle.

Put him at guard. I think he’s big and athletic enough to play inside in this scheme.

Try him at LG. Jenkins is the RG of the future if he can stay healthy.

NFL speed and twitch. He's not a T right now and they likely haven't worked him inside so are hesitant to put him there. He's worth keeping for the offseason to see if he can develop inside.

Agree… He hasn’t been crisp off the snap. Combine that with a poor kick slide and look out Justin!

Eiselen didn't play any worse than Borom in his limited snaps but did look slow footed. Both backups. Borom has better feet but just doesn't seem as stout as he should be. Would still like to see Eiselen at C where I think he'd fits best but suspect we need to get a new C in the off season.

Leatherwood is a healthy scratch today

Looks like bears’ answer is No, he is not getting another chance, at least for now

Here's the thing. He was worth taking a chance on for a team that was going nowhere this season.

It's looking like it didn't work out.

No one should be mad at the Bears kicking the tires on a former first round pick to see if there's anything worth salvaging in a season like this. Even if it doesn't work out.

Being inactive today doesn't mean they should cut him tomorrow either. IMO, they should still keep him around for the entire offseason to work with him, certainly to see what he can do at LG. If at the end of the 2023 training camp, he just doesn't look worth keeping around, then so be it.

I just checked over the cap, and it looks like his cap hit for 2023 is $2M, so I don't think there are really any major monetary considerations in play.
