Does Trading For Mack Buy Pace More Time?

I get that Bears fans have been kicked repeatedly in the nuts by Trestman and Fox and being 8-8 or 9-7 is an improvement. But Why is "winning record" good enough. We likely have a SB caliber defense. If our QB keeps shitting the bed and costing us games like week 1, there is no way we start winning playoff games.

Isn't winning the SB the real goal?

Whose goal? yours and mine sure but we don't hire and fire. The McCaskys do. They just want to sell tickets and not be a league embarrassment. It's not SB or bust for them.

Depends how long he sticks with Mitchell if he continues to prove a bust. If Pace pulls a rabbit out of a hat and can bring in real QB competition in the next year or two then he can survive Mitch. But if he pins all his faith in Mitchell then Pace and him are tied at the hip.
Hope Trubisky turns out great, if no improvement this season he has to bring in a Vet right?

I've said since draft day, and after Pace traded away a crazy amount of picks to move up 1 spot, that Pace's tenure with the Bears will be directly tied to the success or failure of Mitch Trubisky.

And as we've seen, Trubisky has yet to take that next step from crappy to mediocre. And obviously until he takes that step, he can't take the following step from mediocre to good. And since he's still at crappy, and not yet at mediocre or good, "franchise QB" status is no where in sight.

So, I suspected that if Mitch didn't take any of those steps, Pace maybe had another year after this one.

But, in picking up Mack, Pace elevated a top 10 Defense to potential top 3 level. The Bears defense is already Top 10 in several defensive categories: Sacks, TOP, points allowed, Penalties, Yards rushing, forced fumbles, Defensive points scored....

So, the question is simple, does Pace trading away the teams future to bring in Mack to build a dominating defense buy him more time if Trubisky ends up continuing to be crappy and busts?

It depends on what the McCaskeys think.

Based on what we've seen so far, both guys on our bench have played better than Trubisky.

Makes me wonder which QB Pace would have picked if Nagy were here in 2017 and not Fox. We know Pace liked Mitchell and Fox gave 2 shits.

Not much else he can do other than a mid round pick. Even a vet will likely need to be on the cheap. Chase and a 3rd rounder might be all he can muster.

Of course. Who wants to come and be a GM on a team with no first round picks?

One of the upsides to getting Nagy was supposed to be that he has a solid system and can actually develop a QB.

It will be interesting to see if any tension occurs between Pace and Nagy if/when Nagy gives up on Trubisky.

Which brings up another interesting question... If Trubisky had actually panned out and played well and won us some games last year, would Fox still be here?

You would assume hiring naggy was a confident move that he would develop trubisky into a franchise qb

The clock on wins begins this season. They need to be ascending this year and be competing for the division next year.

This is a borderline personal attack. Can I ask the new mods to step in and judge?

Reported as a PA.

To note, as I am a mexican american male with many kids, and PIB is not, this is sexist, antireligioinsist, and zionist. As this term was used in the famous documentary "fast times at Ridgemont High" against a jewish kid

You have been warned.

New Mods, please do your sworn duty.

Your simple question morphed from what was asked in the title to what was asked in the footer.

Short answer: Yeah, you can't fire a GM after they win the Superbowl.

Long answer: Go **** yourself

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Pace has done well. He hasn't hit on every draft pick but no GM does. He's made moves to restore the defense to greatness, built a solid coaching staff and surrounded his young QB with talent. The pressure is now on Nagy to develop young Mitch and get the most out of him. We're never going to have All-Pros at every single position.

So...No, I don't think any one move is tied to Pace's future with the Bears. Winning is all that matters now and that's more on Nagy than Pace at this point.
