Campana and Jackson fly out to start the Iowa first inning. Strikeout ends the inning for Iowa in order. Round Rock has Neil Ramirez on the mound.

Rusin just gave up a solo shot to start the 2nd inning. 3rd homerun for that Round Rock player in the series.

Find out who so we can trade for him.

Who are they affiliated with?

Rangers. It is a 1B last name Banucci (sp?). Dude apparently led the Texas League (another hitter friendly league) with 30 homeruns last season.

A flyout has to go some distance, not just an OF running all the way to the IF to catch the ball.

It's Bianucci. He plays DH, tho so he wouldn't help much if he only plays DH in the minors. He looks like a Brian LaHair kind of player ... not a good defender, can hit in minors (a good amount less than LaHair too) and could only be a AAAA player.

He played 1B the first two games and looked fine there. He is 25 which is a touch old for the league, but at least this is his first time through it.

Yah, prolly just to see if he can play 1B. He's losted as a DH, tho. That's why I said that.

He has played the field in over half of his game though seems like it was mostly LF (145 games) and RF (111) prior to this season. Don't doubt he is listed as a DH, and the guy isn't a major prospect by any means. Just don't think he is that limited defensively.

Scouting Report from 4-6 (Iowa Cubs):
SP Casey Coleman-Worked in the high 80s with his fastball and generally had pretty good control on the night. He got hurt by a few mistake pitches including a hanging breaking ball to Michael Bianucci. He flashed a good pickoff move and was very good fielding his position all night. Coleman came back well after giving up runs throughout the night. After he gave up a solid double to score the first run, he struck out the next two batters. After giving up back to back homeruns in the fourth he struck out the next two batters again. He was able to get swinging strikeouts with a curveball out of the zone and elevating his fastball. He also froze a batter with a good curveball.

RP Jeff Beliveau-Had a strong night. Got an easy flyball on the first pitch of the inning. Beliveau showed a fastball at 89 mph during the evening. He got called strikes with inside breaking pitches to left handed batters. He ended the inning with a swinging strikeout on a high fastball.

RP Esmailin Caridad-Was the most impressive pitcher to me on the evening. Caridad was dominate in the eighth inning throwing 93, 94 and 95 mph fastballs. He ended the inning with a 95 mph fastball that he blew by a hitter, and he was able to mix in curveball for some called strikes as well. Caridad struggled a little with command in the ninth issuing two 2 out walks, but got a fly out to end the inning unscathed.

CF Tony Campana-Had an up and down night. Started the game with a five pitch walk to get on base. He also made a nice running catch in foul territory on a flyball. He also got an OF assist at 2B. He played the ball perfectly off the wall and made a strong throw to get Michael Bianucci who was somewhat trotting to second base believing that he would make it easily to second with how hard he hit the ball. Campana also had a perfectly placed bunt single in the eighth to load the bases with no outs. Campana though was not stellar on the basepaths getting thrown out easily trying to steal in the first and was gunned down at the plate trying to score on a Rizzo single from second. Round Rock starter Martin Perez also overpowered Campana for a strikeout on inside fastballs.

CF Brett Jackson-Jackson also made a nice defensive play in center getting a good jump on a ball and make a catch in the left center gap look routine. He also had the hardest hit ball of any I-Cub. He had a solid shot off the wall in left field that Bourbon misplayed a bit that allowed Jackson to get to third standing up. Jackson also drew an eighth inning 8 pitch walk where he didn't lift the bat off his shoulder to drive in the second run of the game for the I-Cubs. Jackson though still has some issues making contact. He had a weak pop out on a 1-1 pitch in the first inning, and was struck out looking on an outside pitch. He missed earlier in the sequence on a down and in fastball from Perez.

1B Anthony Rizzo-Was generally very good on defense. He made a nice play on a soft liner that he was positioned perfectly to make. He did make an error in the third inning on a Julio Bourbon bunt attempt. The ball came right to Rizzo to make the play, but he looked up to check where the speedster was and the ball dribbled under his glove at that point. Rizzo had a solid night at the plate statistically, but wasn't that impressive watching it. He started the first inning taking 3 balls from Perez, but Campana was gunned down to end the first inning. When Rizzo started the second inning with a fresh AB, he was mowed down by three tough inside fastballs from Perez. Rizzo watched the first two and swung over the top for the third strike. Rizzo hit a lazy flyball in his last AB against Perez. He got his first "hit" off of a 32 year old right handed reliever. Rizzo chopped the ball in the dirt and the first baseman grabbed the ball and flipped to the pitcher. The pitcher didn't get his foot on the bag and Rizzo beat it out for an infield single. His second hit was a solid hit up the middle in the eighth inning off a left handed reliever. Campana was tossed out at home due to a strong throw from Round Rock's centerfield Leonys Martin.

C Wellington Castillo-Struggled with throwing runners out. The Express got three stolen bases off Castillo. Two of Castillo's throw were off target and on a third attempt Castillo dropped the ball on the transfer. He had a real solid hit off of Perez that he got caught trying to stretch a double into a triple. Castillo also was struck out looking on a high breaking pitch from that 32 year old right handed reliever.

3B Josh Vitters-Vitters didn't have to make a play defensively at third base which is one of the things I am most interested in watching from him. I do have to say that in the past two games I have been awfully impressed with Vitters approach at the plate. He had a solid single off Martin Perez between the third baseman and shortstop. Vitters also drew a five pitch walk to start off the eighth inning rally. Even the strikeout in the ninth inning showed a solid approach at the plate. Vitters swung on the first three pitches which were fastballs in the upper nineties. The first one he missed, and the next two he made contact. The third pitch was a 97 mph fastball that he turned on and drove into the bleachers on the left field side. He layed off a slider low and away, but missed on an inside fastball to strikeout.

SP Martin Perez (Round Rock)-I normally am not going to write too much about the opposing team, but I had to write a little bit about this 21 year old left hander. He looked really impressive on Friday. He had a shaky first inning where he threw 14 pitches only 4 of which were for strikes. He got bailed out by a strong throw from his catcher to nab Campana. After that he came back and pounded the strikezone getting a few Ks and a lot of quick easy outs. He throws both a sinker and a two seam fastball with movement in the mid 90s. He hit 96 at one point, but was regularly working around 93. He also featured a changeup and a curveball. Only Wellington Castillo had a hard hit ball on Perez the whole night. The announcers were making comparison to Johan Santana all night with the tall, hard throwing lefty.

4-7-12
Low A-Midwest League

(2-1 T-1st Western)Peoria Chiefs 6 at (1-2 T-5th Western)Beloit Snappers (MIN) 2
The Chiefs take their opening series with a convincing 6-2 win. Zeke DeVoss got the game started with a double. He would get cut down on a run down but the Chiefs would take 1 run lead. Chiefs starter Jose Rosario would give that run back in the bottom of the inning off a Ed Rosario solo shot, but the Chiefs would answer with three runs in the second. DeVoss would get his first RBI by a HBP with the bases loaded. LF Eduardo Gonzalez went 2 for 4 with a solo shot for the only Chiefs homerun. 2B Zeke DeVoss ended the game going 1 for 3 with a BB and RBI, and OF Reggie Golden would go 1 for 5 with a strikeout. SP Jose Rosario got the win going 5.1 IP giving up 2 ER with 3 BB and 2 K. He had a ton of groundball outs on the day.

High A-Florida State League
(1-2 T-4th North)Daytona Cubs 0 at (2-1 T-2nd North)Brevard County Manatees (MIL) 1
This might be the most encouraging 1-0 loss I have ever seen. The reason I write that is that former 1st round pick Hayden Simpson was the losing pitcher. Simpson gave up a solo shot for the game's only run. The Cubs offense was pretty stagnant. CF Matt Szczur and 2B Ronald Torreyes were a combined 0 for 7 with 3 strikeouts. LF John Androelli got on base three times which accounted for 3 of the 8 baserunners the Cubs had all game. The other negatives is that apparently Simpson was only clocked at 86 mph on his fastball which means he still has yet to recover the velocity he lost following what has to be the most severe case of mono ever recorded.

AA-Southern League
(2-1 2nd North)Tennessee Smokies 2 at (1-2 4th North)Chattanooga Lookouts (LAD) 10
The Smokies can't make it three in a row on the road. The Smokies matched the Lookouts pitching for 7 innings led by starter Dallas Beeler. Beeler pitched 5 innings gave up a single run on 5 hits with no walks 2 strikeouts. 2B Logan Watkins had a good game with a 2 for 5 day. 1B Justin Bour went 1 for 3 with an RBI. CF Jae-Hoon Ha chipped in 2 hits in 4 ABs. The downfall of the Smokies was a 9 run sixth inning given up by relievers Daniel Berlind and Casey Weathers. Berlind got 2 outs but gave up 7 hits and a walk for 8 ER. Weathers allowed the inherited runners and one of his own to score before mercifully ending the inning. RF Johnathan Mota isn't getting a mention due to the bat which was 0 for 4, but rather due to a scoreless inning of relief he pitched in the eighth. Mota got two fly outs and a pop out in his fourth professional pitching appearance, for those curious he has thrown 5.2 innings giving up 1 ER with 3 BB and 2 K.

AAA-Pacific Coast League
(2-1 T-2nd American South)Round Rock Express (TEX) 7 at (1-2 T-2nd American North)Iowa Cubs 2
Chris Rusin made his 2012 debut against Round Rock. Rusin took the loss giving up 4 runs over 5.1 IP, but his performance was a lot stronger than his stat line. 1B Michael Bianucci continued to haunt the I-Cubs with his 3rd straight game with a HR to give the Express the early lead. The I-Cubs would tie the game, but a 3 run sixth would give the Express the margin needed for victory. The Express would rough up Nate Robertson in his I-Cub debut to make the game a laugher. CF Brett Jackson went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored for the I-Cubs. 1B Anthony Rizzo would go 1 for 4 and pick up an RBI in the loss.

Scouting Reports (Iowa Cubs):
SP Chris Rusin-Rusin started the game off impressively with a 6 pitch first inning. He has a real smooth and easy looking delivery. He had good command most of the night giving up only 2 walks, and Rusin was not getting the benefit of many close calls throughout the night. Rusin was impressive fielding his position and flashed in excellent pickoff move which he used twice to eliminate speedy baserunners Julio Bourbon and Leonys Martin. Rusin gave up three solid hits all night, but the Express were able to bunch them together to do damage. The sixth inning Julio Bourbon got a weak infield hit off of Rusin's foot. Martin ripped a double past a diving Rizzo, and Bianucci got a soft single up the middle. Rusin's night was finished at that point.

RP Frankie De La Cruz-His delivery looks a lot like Marcos Mateo. He had a fastball working in the low 90s and has a good chaneup in the middle 80s with downward movement that he picked up from Fernando Rodney. De La Cruz fell behind hitters early consistently, and it cost him in the sixth where gave up a long double that hit the warning track to drive in two runs charged to Rusin. In the eighth inning, despite falling behind hitters, he managed to get a quick 1-2-3 inning with relatively weak contact made by all three hitters. He was able to get swinging strikes with the changeup.

RP Nate Robertson-Fastball was clocked at 87 mph. Robertson had some bad luck to start the inning by hitting the shoetops of the first batter he faced and an error on a possible double play ball resulting in two on and no outs. Robertson gave up three solid hits for 3 runs to score in the eighth inning.

LF Tony Campana-Managed only a soft single to center for his one time on base in his last at bat. He struck out an inside fastball. Round Rock pitchers have been pounding left handers inside consistently throughout the series.

CF Brett Jackson-Jackson flew out in his at bat. He made contact on the 2-2 pitch after missing on a 91 mph inside fastball. His second plate appearance he fouled off two pitches and eventually drew a walk on a full count pitch. His second at bat he hit a solid single past the pitcher up the middle on a 1-2 pitch. His third at bat he hit a solid double at the base of the right field wall. Jackson would fan swinging on his last at bat. He went up 2-0 to start the at bat, but had two outside strikes called. He swung and missed on another outside pitch to end the at bat.

1B Anthony Rizzo-The Express tried to work fastballs inside and low to Rizzo throughout the night. He popped up the first one. It should be noted that he was hustling the entire time out of the box and he was at 2B when the 3B caught the routine pop out. He pulled an inside fastball between the 1B holding the runner and the 2B for his RBI, but popped out and struck out on inside pitches in his final two at bats.

3B Adrian Cardenas-Played 3B for the first time this year. Cardenas made a routine play at 3B, but also had a low throw that Anthony Rizzo couldn't hang onto for an error.

Vitters with 2-2 so far and batting in the 430's. Can Vitters's play 2B? I know he's no a great defender, but spots are closing. I don't think DeJesus will be traded, so he can't play OF.

Package Barney in a deal with Byrd, Fonzie or Byrd. He'll be one hell of an utility man or he can be that with the Cubs.

Lineup later in season (very unlikely, tho)
1) DeJesus RF
2) Castro SS
3) LaHair LF
4) Rizzo 1B
5) Jackson CF
6) Stewart 3B
7) Vitters 2B
8) Castillo C
9P Pitcher P

Vitters probably can't play 2B, so this won't work. But it'll be fun to watch.
