I can't see that trade flying every year. Think the Patriots were hoping the Bears would be bad last year because getting a 4th round pick so you can A. wait a year and B. Pick 5 spots lower seems like a bad deal.

To get to the back end of the 2nd round that would value 2[2020] as the 10th pick of the 3rd round.

Last year NE valued our 2nd round pick as a top 50 pick.

I am not a huge fan of thinking that the next two seasons are some sort of window due to cap space. That is really not a thing. i think it is something like 2 of the last 20 Super Bowl winners had QBs on a rookie contract.

A great QB will win more rings than a cheap one.
The good, young rookie contract QB window is very real but a relatively new phenomenon. While that may be the case for teams actually winning the superbowl, I'm sure in the last 10 years the number would look quite different for teams that made the post season.

No doubt you'd always rather know you have a great QB for a decade but realistically, what're the odds Mitch becomes a great QB?

I like Mitch but the odds are against that happening for him and almost every other QB.

But with the large salary cap edge a team has with a solid to above average QB on a rookie qb contract, your QB doesn't have to be great because you can build a stacked roster.

They only have to be good which is much more realistic

Now that Baltimore don't have Ozzie as Gm no more, I wonder if the whole J.A. fiasco is over with. Bears need to make good with potential trade partners. We need teams to "work with us" type.
Bears, because of Pace, has maybe a few willing partners. Maybe it's the Saints and Patriots. Oakland will probably never answer the phone again if the caller id says "Halas Hall".

If Pace really wants to maximize this years draft class he might be better off offering the Oakland pick straight up for late 2nd or early 3rd and keeping this years third and fourth.

Not a huge fan of continuing to trade away picks either but lets not forget:

This team is racing against the clock to build a championship team with a countdown timer until Trubisky needs to get paid.

So they have a very real incentive to be ultra aggressive and take chances on guys to try and maximize this small window they have before it is too late. Stock piling assets and late round picks is usually good, but most likely by the time those guys pan out we'll be talking about Trubisky's new contract
I don't understand this thought process. If paying Trubisky would kill of chances of continuing to have a shot to contend...why pay him? It makes no sense to think this way.

BTW, I don't think it does hurt us, it just means our cap has to be allocated differently. We MAY have to make a decision between Trubs and Mack, but at that point losing either shouldn't kill our chances with the rest of our talent continuing to develop...

Which of these (if any) would you consider? (they all work on the draft value chart)

1. Bears pick #87 plus BOTH Bears 2nd round picks in 2020 for Patriots pick #32.
2. Bears pick #87 plus Bears (from Oakland) 2nd round pick in 2020 for Miami pick #48.
3. Bears pick #87 for Giants pick's #108, 132 and 142.
Me personally....
Scenario:
1. Hell no.
2. Maybe. Would have to be a RB Pace loved.
3. Absolutely.

Unless the Bears are setting a smoke screen I think Pace is at least contemplating a trade up with one or both of those second round picks. They've had Josh Jacobs in for a private workout and there's no way he lasts till #87. Me personally I'm trading down if possible and getting a few more picks. Pace has proven he can find guys in round 4 and 5 so I'd love another pick or two there much more so than putting all my eggs in one basket. Plus this team IMO needs more than one RB. Needs depth at TE, OL, CB, and EDGE plus one or two more RB's

Good thread ... much better then the usual ccs crap ...
I actually like #1 better then #2 because if Pace made that trade, it would mean we get a 'blue chip' player at #32. I agree that #2 would be for a RB Nagy/Pace likes. To me, #3 is a 'no brainer'! Pace would love all those picks this year!

I'm thinking the most realistic is a trade down of our 3rd a couple picks and getting an extra 4th or 5th. I do think Pace has the gonads to move up and grab a player, and I'll be excited about whatever pick that is ........

Wouldn’t kill anything. It will just force them to change how they build the team.

When Mack and Mitch are making big money they are going to need their high picks to play each year to replace guys who walk in free agency.

But if you let Mack walk, it's a guaranteed 3rd round comp pick!!!!!

Option #2...…...it would place Pace in a position to grab almost any of the top RB prospects that fit his system. The exception being Jacobs.

I could very easily see Pace making small moves down in round 4 and or 5 to gain some 6th round picks and add volume.

On day 3 it is much about multiple swings as it is deep scouting.

Option one is not appealing at all.

I like two better but I would rather they trade their own second rounder in 2020.

Option three would not upset me either if there isn't the value/player they want at 87.

- Did you pick Miami for any reason? Like do they have a ton of picks and wouldn't be interested in 2nd RB?

I'd be fine with the Bears getting the RB they want. I don't think they're desperate for picks this year.

- I'm assuming Giants have a lot of picks, where they like to move up.

I'd prefer Bears go for quality, not quantity, but if they see a strong middle draft, collecting a couple drafts sounds smart.

Don't for get S since HaHa is only signed to a one year deal. That's actually a pretty big need.
I see Safety and HaHa a little differently...

If HaHa does well, I'm not sure that we can't afford to keep him.

Also, for any position it's great to get a really good rookie-contract player, but I think Bears still need to look at HaHa, Bush and DHC... spend higher draft picks on other positions.

How bout trading a pick for a proven RB or wait for cuts?

Ehh, you never know. Maybe they really like Sanders/Henderson in comparison to whats available in the 3rd/4th round. Both of those more than likely wont be there at #87.

I'd rather keep both those 2nd's next year anyways. Gives us good flexibility to get back into the top 20 and get a day 1 pick if a good prospect falls.

With the amount of time and effort the staff is putting towards scouting nearly every mid round RB in this draft they better find that "diamond in the rough".

14/46 of the prospects we have met with thus far are RB's. Interestingly enough we still haven't met with Henderson, who a lot of people on here like.
