-The Chicago Bulls are reportedly heavily shopping Tyrus Thomas around the league, trying to see what kind of value they can get for him after the solid season he’s coming off of. It appears that they don’t see him fitting into their long-term plans as he’s too similar to Joakim Noah, and they aren’t interested in giving him a long-term deal that would put them over the luxury tax. It’s possible the Bulls look to package Thomas and Hinrich together and land a big time power forward.

That's the beauty of the playoffs. You tend to get a clear assessment of your players' abilities. And in as much as I like Tyrus, he is the one who should go.

This seems like a bit of an over reaction. I'm not exactly happy with how he played in the playoffs, but he still averaged nearly 3 blocks a game in them.

He's still young, but he's shown quite a bit of talent. Why draft a project if you're not willing to wait it out?

If they're cashing him in for something good, that's another story. But if we just end up trading him and Hinrich in a package for Marcus Camby, then no thank you.

Considering what has been said and done in the past (and not that long ago mind you), I think they're trying to cash him in for something good. Whether they are able to is another matter. Oh and Marcus Camby doesn't register on the big time power forward list.

They have been patient, he is still so young and exceptionally raw it does feel a bit of a letdown to shop him so early, but it has been 3 years and he hasn't truly improved significantly enough for a project. While he has matured and seems to realize how much work the successful players put in, it may be too late as a Bull. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes another 3 years for Tyrus to become a consistent and dependable player, so I wouldn't blame Gar/Pax for looking to build on the playoff performance especially when his position is of the greatest need.

With very few exceptions, you know what you've got after three years. What we have is someone whose best case at this point seems to be average starter, and who is also not a great fit with our team (assuming we view Noah as a keeper).

I think we may as well try to trade Tyrus now, since we probably don't really want to extend him next summer. Why not try to get something for him?

I would say just the opposite. The playoffs makes people overreact. As if what they do in 7 games is more important than what they did in the 82 before hand. See Jerome James.

Though I'm not against trading Tyrus, I am against dumping Tyrus.

I am against just dumping Tyrus for virtually nothing as well. Outside of Amare/Bosh/West trio possibilities via trade if you take this rumor of Tyrus + Hinrich for a scoring PF then if you are willing to take the chance then Elton Brand for that package makes some sense. That would allow you to bring in Brand and still have both draft picks.

I'm a big Tyrus supporter and expect him to be a very good PF in the NBA by age 24 or 25(2 to 3 years), but if Chicago is shopping Tyrus heavily I'd have to think that a proven good PF is on his way to Chicago.

+1

I am not against trading Tyrus but if we are, we better trade him (in a package) only if we are getting a star player (preferably frontcourt like Amare/Bosh) back.

I really don't want Bulls to just dump him coz he is very close to his extension.

Nothing is being said that we're just going to dump Thomas just that he's being shopped and could be packaged with Kirk for a big.

I think the chances of Thomas being dealt are pretty good but I don't think people should worry about us just dumping him

Pax isn't going to just dump Tyrus. You don't do that with a #2 overall pick who has played OK, and still has some room for improvement.

Kirk/TT/Picks/Expirings is about as good an offer as you will see for Bosh/Amare.

Is it a possibility that Chicago is heavily shopping Tyrus to have more options to get a bigtime PF by being able to bring a 3rd team into the trade? Maybe we don't exactly have what Phoenix or Toronto wants but adding one more piece from another team might do the trick?

You don't dump a guy like Tyrus, if you can't get a very good PF you roll the dice that Tyrus is a much better player in a couple of years.

I think there's a good chance that the Bulls just want Tyrus off the roster. I've heard he's being aggressively shopped, not just shopped, but that they're going out of their way to try and move him.

I don't think it's all that surprising. Odds are he's not the longterm answer, in shopping him now the Bulls are going to get a sense of his value and how much he would really add to a blockbuster trade...

But I am sure this just comes down to the Bulls being tired of his lapses in concentration. While Tryus' skills have noticably improved since his first year in the league it hasn't necessarily added up to much better production because of his mental struggles.

I think the Bulls aren't fooled by his performance this year and his value is up so they want to deal him..... I just don't think we'll dump him is what I was saying. We might not get a stud like Amare/Bosh but I think we'll get a starter or a major contributor for him

What exactly are you hearing though. Are we looking to dump him for a player or could we dump him for a pick?

Might as well deal him while his value still is high. Its not a dump if we will get a legit big in return.

I could see them trying to dump him on a team with salary cap space for a future first round pick, to try to create more room under the luxury tax to re-sign Gordon.

If that's really all they get out of Tyrus than this will truly wrap up one of the most disappointing player experiences ever. First they couldn't get coaches that would put him on the floor, now they are going to dump him for a pick when they knew he was a project who was going to take a lot of time (years and minutes) to develop? That is a certified DISASTER.
