all it took was a MINOR suggestion from Mill. Jako!!
What kind of screwball walks through the store, sees a can of Sweet Sue Whole Canned Chicken, thinks of me, and has Ymono buy it. Something's wrong with that.

Damn thing fell apart coming out of the can, though. Would have looked much nicer in the cup in one piece sitting there swimming in it's broth.

I never even knew they made canned whole-chicken. Seriousy, what is the point of that. Who would eat that besides boozers at an IHN function?

Here is the story about the legitimacy of the cup.

If you see the Stanley Cup outside of Toronto, its the REAL Stanley Cup. The "fake" cup stays in Toronto 365 days a year as a display piece at the Hall of Fame. To my understanding, its an authentic replica in every way, but a replica nonetheless.

The Cup that was at Daley Plaza yesterday is the genuine article. That Cup travels 250+ days a year for display at various arenas, for the SC winning team members to have for a day, etc.

As years pass, rings on the cup get retired. The Hawks will have their names engraved at the bottom, but as the years pass, that ring will move from the bottom to the top with the top rings going into the hall of fame when space is needed for new winners.

Not to quibble, but just to add to your post whaler, there are actually 3 cups. 2 look like the Stanley Cup that we are all familiar with -- the one hoisted and skated around by the winning team, such as our Chicago Blackhawks (that never gets old).

One is the autheticated Presentation Cup -- the "REAL" cup, in a manner of speaking -- as it is the one that is presented to the winning team and that travels around -- this is the Cup that has been used since the early 1960's.

One is a replica that was made sometime in the early 1990's and you are correct that it is a replica in almost every detail (there are a few very minor differences that one can use to check which is which). The replica stays at the Hall of Fame in T.O. and is on display when the authentic Presentation Cup is traveling (most of the year). When the Presentation Cup is not traveling, it is displayed at the HOF instead of the replica. I have been to the HOF twice and once I saw the replica and once I saw the authentic.

The third is the original cup that was beqeuathed by Lord Stanley of Preston. That original cup was used until the early 1960's. It is made of silver and is a little more delicate than the silver/nickel alloy that is used for the authenticated Presentation Cup and the replica. The original Cup is in a glass display case on permanent display at the HOF without the bands/base that were added over time. The retired bands are also on display.

If you have not been to the HHOF, it is worth a pilgrimage. I look forward to my next visit -- hopefully in March when the Hawks play the Leafs.

It's DEFINITELY worth the trip. It's been 10 years since I was there but it is very easy to get there by train from downtown.
