That is the exact point. Did you miss all the discussion singling out Conte as a main problem? Did you miss the years where the Bears could not find a decent safety anywhere? These two were starters while the D was dominant and they were making plays, not just hiding.
Every safety takes bad angles and misses tackles at times, the front 7 was so bad in 13 that we needed Mike Brown from 2001 back there. The reason Mike Brown was so great is that he covered up other players' mistakes with his All-Pro level ability. I have simply said that safety was good enough with Major and Conte. That was in response to all the people who blamed safeties and wanted to use a first rounder on a safety. Other positions were much more in need of improvement in my opinion.
Quote me one person who said that safety was the main reason the defense was bad. I am curious who these people are you keep mentioning that blamed it all on the safeties.
Let me ask you this question for the 4rd time: what does safeties taking poor angles, constantly biting on pump fakes and poor tackling have to do with sub-par front 7 play? You avoidance of this questions is beyond pathetic at this point.
And don't feed some BS about all safeties take bad angles once in a while. Using that logic would put Conte in the same class as Mike Brown and Polamalu. Because you know, they all took bad angles at times. There is a huge difference between taking bad angles at times and getting highlighted constantly for doing it.
It's also funny that you can credit Mike Brown for covering up other players mistakes with one breathe and then minimize the affect that good front 7 play had on the safety position. Which is really irrelevant anyway. Because with the safety and CB positions you can more easily evaluate it based upon individual effort and performance because they are more on an island that the front 7 positions.
There is a reason I pointed out taking bad angles, poor tackling and biting on pump fakes as a negative for safeties. Because, despite what you want to believe, those attributes can be tied to an individuals performance and are exclusive to the performance of the other players on the field.
You may as well try to tell us that Kellen Davis was obviously a good TE because he has a superbowl ring.
