I have been a DTV customer since 1998 but the Dish Networks Hopper was starting to look pretty good coupled with the free iPad. DTV has the Genie system but when I called DTV they wanted $300 to upgrade and no iPad. So I called back to cancel service and was promptly transferred to the "retention" department. The rep at the retention dept tells me that he can give me the Genie and the NFL ticket at no cost because I am a VIP customer. I decided to stay with DTV and buy my own iPad haha!

For the DTV customers with a DVR the Genie is a huge upgrade. I can access both recording lists from our old DVR and the Genie from any tv in the house now. The response time is much faster on the satellite tvs that are accessing the DVRs through the whole home network.

I am very happy with the DTV Genie!

+1 We just got rid of Comcast for this setup. Our bill was close to $200, **** that

Kidding about having rabbit ears. I use a Mohu antenna. They don't look hideous and work great. I didn't mind paying the money for a good looking antenna, it paid for itself many times.

Also, I still have Comcast internet since it's the best around here. Though I bought my own Motorola 6141 modem to avoid the $7 a month modem "rental" fee.

**** DTV, I was an unhappy customer for quite a while. Canceled and it was a nightmare. They tried to drain my Credit Card when they owed me
money in the first damn place.

**** them sideways, there's a reason they're so widely hated.

I could see going with all online service in the future but at this point the content my family watches isn't available unless you are willing to go to Pirate Bay for it.

I kinda figured you were kidding about the rabbit ears. We just hit up the google machine for a decently reviewed antenna that was in stock locally. So far it's been awesome. We only watch a few shows so paying for them on amazon instant access is a much more economical way to get our shows.

Does anyone here have century link's fiber optic Internet? We just signed up for it and are waiting for the modem to get delivered. It's supposedly better than Comcast and cheaper with another discount for Verizon customers. Hopefully we haven't gone through this whole process for nothing...

Plus OTA HDTV is uncompressed real high definition. Comcast and dish, especially uverse, are just high compressed HD lite TV.

I dare you to be able to tell the difference between OTA and DTV. Dont bet your car on it

You can. I don't notice on my main TV, 50" plasma. But on my 120" proj you can tell a slight difference. It's usually when there is a lot of fast moving scenes.

Check out my sig.

My parents have DTV and we have Cable, giving us essentially the same channels plus local channels for about half the price...but we just bought Sunday Ticket for dad for Father's Day -- love going over there to watch the Beloved. They don't have the Genie, but they don't use their DVR that often.
