You make a great point about him not seeming to understand the ref signals. Either he's not looking for them, or after watching the game this long he still doesn't know what they mean.
He seems to calls plays based on where players are walking, so he'll commonly just say "offensive foul" when it should be 3 seconds or the ball is tipped out of bounds, or sometimes a technical (where people walk behind the free throw line he thinks change of possession).
However, overall, you nailed all the stuff there is not to like about Funk, he just genuinely doesn't seem able to follow the game.
