1. KHALIL MACK, CHICAGO BEARS

Mack falls outside the top 10 edge defenders in the NFL in total sacks over the last two seasons, but that is just one number that doesn’t reflect how dominant he has been on the field. PFF’s wins above replacement metric, PFF WAR, pegged Mack as the league’s most valuable edge rusher in 2020, and that dominance extends back to his rookie season in 2014. Mack has recorded an overall grade above 85.0 in each of his first seven NFL seasons.

For those who think sack totals are the end all be all. Hopefully with Pagano gone, Desai will scheme Mack into a few more one on one situations and not have his CBs playing 10 yards off and giving up easy completions before Mack can get home.

Pagano ran his D a lot like Lovie did when he actually called games. Soft but serviceable but no creativity or risk taking. I thought Pagano would blitz a lot more than he did.

Fangio didn’t blitz a lot but he helped his pass rushers by making the QB hold the ball for a split second too long. QBs had to read the coverage post snap against Fangio. With Pagano the QB almost always new where he could get a completion pre-snap and the soft coverage or where and how he played Jackson didn’t help.

If Desai goes back to more exotic coverages and (BIG) if Quinn can be effective that will help Mack’s sack numbers tremendously.

How is Chandler Jones still getting underrated? The dude has been an absolute beats his entire career but just doesn't get talked about enough. They have him at #16 on this list.....RIDICULOUS.

Quinn needs to get healthy

There are too many Bears fans that don’t understand how good Mack is and only look at his sack numbers. It makes me wonder if they even OT attention to him on Sundays.
I watch the games and sack numbers aside, I haven't seen the same guy I saw in 18. That version of Mack was consistently destroying double and triple teams. The Mack I've seen recently I've watched lose a lot of 1 on 1s....hell, seen him getting 1 on 1 blocked by a TE. Now, he's still a great player and has probably been banged up the past couple of seasons...but it goes way beyond his sack numbers. He just doesn't look like the same otherworldly player. PFF rankings are nice and all, but the eye test shows a diminished player than his 18 self. It also seems like his motor was higher and more consistent in 18. Runs a bit hot/cold lately.

Not disagreeing with anything you said, because I do agree. What we see on Sundays is still better than a lot of OLB out there. He might not destroy double/triple teams as frequently, but he still does do it. It’s hard to compare him to 2018 because that was a “freak” year for him and the defense. Every player that was on that 2018 defense has diminished. He was also healthy that year compared to the last two seasons. But to say he’s not worth the money if he doesn’t put up 15 sacks every single is also not an accurate statement

Yeah, we’re pretty much on the same page. He probably is worth the money but is he worth the money AND the compensation as far as draft capital? Based on his 3 seasons so far, I would lean towards no.

Unfortunately the second part of your post is hard to comment about. We don’t know who the Bears would have drafted with those picks and how they would have performed. I think they would have been in a similar position they are today. A mediocre team because of QB play.

Probably. Still curious to what pace would have done with mid-late 1st round picks because we haven’t really seen it….well , he did trade up this year.

Probably because he is 31 and was injured and missed most of the season last year.
