Animals are not self-destructive, love unconditionally, do not desecrate the planet, abuse their children, nor kill each other over personal differences.

Valuing animals over humans is simply a reflection on the depravity of man.

Some of them do eat their own children.... but idk if that is considered abuse

This occurs in nature for generally 2 reasons only. Either parent lacks resources to raise a baby, or the baby is weak or sick.

In either case, it is based upon natural selection as opposed to what we do to one another.

Elephants are right up there with primates and dolphins in terms of intelligence and are one of the most helpful species of animal out there. they will voluntarily help other animals in distress. they are truly noble and probably even smart enough to know vaccinations are good for public health.

Nobody is out of touch. People are just commenting on the story, as they do with any article that's presented in a thread. Most of us are happy to hear of the elephant being rescued from a bad environemnt and being given a good one, as anyone with an ounce of empathy towards other living things would be. It's pretty simple.
An elephant's normal life span is not that much greater than 50 years so, again I ask, where were these supposed heroes for that 50 years of suffering and am I really suppose to believe this mammoth cried tears of joy? Hey, I'm just keeping it real as always.

I'd venture to say part of Raju's torture included vaccinations as he looks much the worse for wear.

Elephants are fertile to 45-50 years old and can live over 70 years in the wild, so I would assume in a protected environment with vetinary help on hand, he could have another 20-30 years of life left.

Elephants have been scientifically shown to be able to express complex emotions.

Do you know of any legit studies that back that up? I'm not doubting you, just interested in that type thing. I would also think after being mistreated for half a century it would take quite a while to expect anything but that.

It's more than a bit ironic that you, given your reputation, speak about the depravity of man. Man is too often misguided and sometimes just not wired correctly but let us not sell out our own species to put wild animals above ourselves. You can love animals and not go that nuts about it.

I'm with Spartan on this one, care for animals but do not place them at the same level as humans. That's sick too

Heffalumps are much more like us than most would like to admit...many of them enjoy getting hammered. I do, however, question whether or not they taste good enough to be hunted for their meat (rather than their dick-enlarging/ornamental face-bones).

I prefer the company of my dog over most humans. You say I'm sick...I say most people are vapid, self-absorbed dolts. But then again, I'm not really what you would call a "people person".
