Emery gets one more crack tomorrow vs the Pens.

Looking forward to seeing who wins the backup job.

Anyone know if Emery will get a one or two way contract if he wins?

My guess is that he is looking for a one way contract (as most are). Also, I highly doubt that he would pass through waivers - he has a better chance on a one way contract though.

I think Salak has looked better so far in the preseason, but they might still go with Emery just because he is a vet. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I don't think it matters whether or not Emery is offered a one-way or a two-way; I think he's played enough that he'd still have to pass through waivers if he was asked to go to Rockford. The only difference would be the $ he would earn.

^^^ Correct, he is at the age where he would have to pass through waivers.

I am really interested to see if he sticks with anyone in the NHL this year. He can still sign with anyone in the NHL if he wants to. San Jose needs some back up help with Nitty being out for a while.

Niemi hurt? They said he may not be ready for the season.

Niemi had a cyst removed, they say he should be ready for the regular season.

The Sharks, for some reason, have never really seemed thrilled about using Greiss as a back up. I think they look for a veteran if need be. Something to remember though is that Nitty makes a decent buck for a back up.

Florida also just had Clemmensen go down with an injury (their back up). While they do have Markstrom (a top prospect) I don't know if they would use him as a back up.

There are a few teams who will probably be watching Emery closely tonight.

Emery looked like shit tonight.

NOT impressed at all. He can hit the road for all I care.

He got dicked by Keith and Seabs on the bad clear/dickpunch goal. But the other 2 he did look like shit.

^^^ Well rumors are out there that the Blackhawks are close to agreeing to a one year deal with Emery. I would imagine it is for the back up role in the NHL.

I like Emery but handing him a job is unacceptable considering Salak outplayed his ass.

Yea...not really.

Yes, Salak did out play him...in 120 minutes of hockey. Not exactly a large sample size there.

On top of that there are a lot of other factors that go into the decision of a back up goalie. The Blackhawks probably rather have Salak play in 55 games instead of 20, seeing as he is still young and needs to develop a little. The Blackhawks rather have 3 goalies to rely on instead of 2, I doubt Emery would play in the AHL with Salak as the back up (though it could happen). Emery has been to the Stanley Cup finals before and did play awesome in his stint with the Ducks last year. It isn't always about taking the most skilled guy, a lot of times it is about taking the best guy for the role....and I think that is Emery.

If in fact he does sign, I would imagine it is a pretty cheap contract.

All valid points- and the most important being that he shined with the Ducks last year.

But history and stats aside, he just didn't look good this preseason.

All I heard was that the Hawks weren't going to hand you a spot.

Yet here we are again.
