Emery/Trestman: Who Plays Where on OL Revealed

Don't see a thread on this, but just heard it from Emery and/or Trestman at the Bears site.

* Bushrod will play LT unopposed.

* Webb will compete for RT.

* Carimi will compete for RT.

* Carimi will also have a chance to play guard.

* Jon Scott will compete for RT. Interesting this was said, being he hasn't been signed yet, that we know of.

He said he wants to field the 5 best linemen.

Emery and Kromer think Bushrod is the best at counter and foot technique in the league. The unspoken meaning is they think he's a top tier LT, and Webb is not good enough to even compete against him for LT. Interesting.

And just an extra -- Emery said he is asking for trading partners to trade down in the draft.

I agree w/ all that, except, like Sculpt said, the part on Scott is interesting to say the least.

I guess at this point in time it's hard to say who will do what when it comes to guard.

He said Carimi has potential to start at guard. Trestman wasn't casual about that. He didn't say Webb or Scott had that potential. I really don't know how well they would play guard.

I think if Carimi lost the competition at RT, he would have a very high chance at starting at guard.

Why is a GM making statements usually reserved for the coaching staff?.

Maybe we'll get to see some sort of death match this summer? All three of them in a circle with spears and garbage can lids.

I don't think the Bears starting LG is on the team right now.
I agree. If Bears sign Roach, Urlacher, or someone else of starting caliber before the draft, then I think the Bears would most likely sign a 1st or 2nd round guard, and maybe even a guard and center. They may of course pick a WR.

If they don't sign a starting LB, I have to think Bears are going to hunt for Ogletree. And Emery said openly he's listening for trade down offers. I have to think we pick up 2 guard/centers in the draft.

Great news.. I think Scott wins the RT jobs, hes has played the best of the three at the RT position. Webb is just horrible at the RT spot he is much bettter at LT. We never seen Carmi at the LT position but probally the same is true. Jon Scott is the only one who has shown can play at RT. Maybe if Carmi is healthy he can do it but he has never shown it yet. Webb shold just be kept for depth only because he is on his 7th rd rookie contract.

It was statements made by both Trestman and Emery combined (I just specified in my post). Trestman in a vid interview on the Bears site said Bushrod would start LT, Webb, Carimi and Scott would compete for RT, and Carimi can play guard. By what they've both said, I can tell they are on the same page.

They didn't pay Bushrod that amount to compete. Webb needs to know the RT job is not his so he doesn't fluff off over what he may see as a demotion. He's easily the most capable but that doesn't mean he'll show the best unless he's prepared both physically and mentally. Ass hat had to play his way into game shape last year. I never want to see that again.

I'm quite certain Trestman and Emery are working on all this together, they are on the same page.

This and how is Emery supposed to move forward with the line if he doesn't have a clue about who plays where. Of course they're in constant discussion.

I'll just pile on here...LOL

I just listened and it was Trestman that laid out the competition of all the tackles including Scott

Thanks for pointing it out...I really appreciate how Emery-Trestman seemingly have schemed and planned out a path for the team going forward...

Totally refreshing getting an intellectual approach to the team to solve issues...

This is the Anti Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith approach

If the plan is to resign Scott then my guess is Carimi plays guard. No point in carrying 4 veteran tackles. Carimi's good run blocking potentially playd better at guard while Webb and Scott are not that good run blocking.

And if Scott wind RT god help us all. Make no mistake. He was not a good RT. He just looked like he was mediocre because Carimi was so atrocious.

Carimi had, quite possibly, the worst season out of a lineman I've seen...worse than omiyale, a few years ago..

Wow. I don't think so and it's not even close. Omiyale was an open door - left kick and on his ass, only to do it the very next play
