If the plan is to resign Scott then my guess is Carimi plays guard. No point in carrying 4 veteran tackles. Carimi's good run blocking potentially playd better at guard while Webb and Scott are not that good run blocking.

And if Scott wind RT god help us all. Make no mistake. He was not a good RT. He just looked like he was mediocre because Carimi was so atrocious.
They may bring Scott into camp (they signed him off the street last year), but that doesn't mean Carimi won't compete for RT. Trestman just said he would. If Scott is last, they could cut him. Otherwise, 4 tackles are rare. But they obviously figure they could move Carimi from RT to guard if they had too.

No surprises here. This seems like a good year to draft two interior linemen in the first three rounds.

I am not disputing what Trestman said. I was giving my opinion on how everything will shake out in the end. I suspect Webb will emerge the victor at RT due to his superior pass blocking and Carimi will end up at guard due to his superior run blocking. Scott becomes the swing tackle.

If Scott doesn't make the team then Carimi is the swing tackle.

Wow. I don't think so and it's not even close. Omiyale was an open door - left kick and on his ass, only to do it the very next play

It was closer than you think. Gabe was one of the first nfl players I actually caught "flopping", like they do in the nba...and he tried doing it a few times for flags and never got one..his actual play wasn't much different. He was literally embarrassed week in and week out. I felt sorry for him at times.

Mark me down as one of the few who have said that Gabe Carimi had a bad shake last year. Just like Marc Columbo did, he'll come back and be avery solid starter. Remember you guys, Columbo had the same awful injury and it took him TWO years before he became good. He started after the Bears gave up on him, down in Dallas for 8 years and was a solid RT. Carimi will do the same. I'm sorry but you don't come back from a dislocated kneecap, two surgeries and hardly an offseason to condition--and expect to become a top tier solid RT. He's human.. I'm expecting a huge change in Gabe this year.

The unspoken meaning is they think he's a top tier LT, and Webb is not good enough to even compete against him for LT. Interesting.

.
for me this is about 0% surprising, I mean why would they have Webb compete with Bushrod for a spot he has zero chance of winning. Would be a waste of time and it makes way more sense to move him straight away to the position where he at least has a chance of getting some playing time.

Now that it seemed like this site is running better, I'm shocked and happy at the same time about Bushrod. I still hope they get Warmack or Cooper in the first, but what a great start to the off season!

Agreed. I would love to lock done the left side of the line and let the best guys compete for the right side. Maybe get a center in hear to be groomed.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
Bushrod - Draft Pick - Garza - Carimi - Scott

Webb = swing Tackle

This would be my guess assuming that we don't re-sign Lance Louis, and only pickup one OL in the draft.

Simple because Webb had a higher pass protecting score than Bushrod per PFF. Emery was referring to them in public. That's a good reason to be surprised. I don't think Webb is better than Bushrod. I'm fine with Bushrod starting LT. I'm just a little surprised.

That's what I'm hoping for. Cooper or Warmack, after we've added Bushrod. That would be a heavy duty improvement to the OL, finally. But now that Roach is gone, Url is interviewing with the Vikes, we have no starting MLB nor WLB. That would push me to sign Ogletree. But we may sign a LB yet.

I really don't think Scott is better RT than Webb. Evidently they will battle. This is a very possible line:

Bushrod - Cooper - Jones - Carimi - Webb

But then again, Cooper has a good chance of being gone by 20, and Jones by 40.
