Here's the thing...the copy editor should have been more cognizant of the fact that this was probably a poor choice of words, but at the same time, it's not like they clearly intended to disparage Jeremy Lin.

The only person who should weigh in on this is Jeremy Lin. Is Lin offended? If not, then just let this story die. Hell, my wife and I call each other worse things all the time. Racial humor is funny; hate speech is not. I don't think this is an example of hate speech, just of an editor not doing his job properly. Life will go on.

That is the epitome of unprofessional journalism and it was wrong.

He is a basketball player and you reference his RACE as apart of an article title? Whoever thought that was a good idea should be fired. It isn't just about Jeremy Lin. It is about making it into a racial thing when it was a basketball thing.

I am offended by that mentality.

I think the whole race card has been played out for way too long. People are way too sensitive these days. However, people have the right to take offense. ESPN looks really bad though. Letting a word like "*****" that you know is gonna have some sting to it, make it past all your editors and onto a headline? That's extremely questionable. The apology was definitely necessary.

I wholeheartedly agree. It was simply used in a terrible context.

There's no way this was on accident by the way. The coincidence is incredible if it is. I think somebody wrote the headline as a joke and probably inadvertently published it. A stupid mistake and a very wrong one.

:lmao: when I first saw that. But seriously, I highly doubt the dude did this on purpose. If he did, then I understand him being fired. But if that's the case then you have to fire the editor as well. It's HIS job to catch that stuff.
