Yeah there are a few of those videos. Because our guys go down when they get hit even though they aren't hurt. It seems like the Taliban use snipers more than the Iraqi insurgents did. But those IBA plates are very good. They can take AK fire for sure. I don't know exactly what sniper rifles they use but they work for that too. Unfortunately some are learning to aim high now after seeing the videos.

its just the caliber of the ammunition the Plates we use are rated at 7.62mm which is what an ak uses.

They can aim all they want from any sort of distance its not easy to hit a target the size of a head. Plate or not its always best to aim center mass, that way if you are off it will most likely then hit an extremity, if you aim for the head you are more likely to miss completely.

Yeah and most of their snipers are not very good luckily. I remember that movie Restrepo they were taking pot shots at the guys in the OP. But they were just looking for the top of their heads. Although I did read of a couple snipers that were so good they aimed for the armpit because they figured out that was a weak spot in the IBA. Luckily most of the enemy snipers aren't good. Delta's took out all those pirates from one of our ships now that is a hard shot.

No worries. Just wanted to make sure credit was given where credit was due.

Yes you buy your own uniforms. You get an annual "Uniform Allowance" that in no way covers everything. Believe it or not, your initial crap issued to you during basic, you technically pay for, that is your initial uniform allowance. I can't speak for the Army/Marines or Air Force, depending on what you are talking about you have something called organizational clothing too, that you could do a one for one swap with. If you're in good with the Chop (supply Officer) or the supply weenies, they could order stuff for you too.

I remember as a kid, you could walk into any Montgomery Wards store and they sold every uniform known to man. Military, Police, firemen, boy scouts. Here now a days, you go to any thrift store or Army/navy store in a 5 mile radius of any military base, same thing, everybody that gets out sells/donates them there.

Air Force was the same for enlisted. Annual clothing allowance for basic uniforms. If you needed specialty gear that was generally issued (parkas, bad weather gear, steel toed boots, flight gear, hospital whites ect...)

When I got commissioned it was a one time allowance. After that everything came out of my pocket for the basics. I just loved paying for my mess/formal dress uniform that I used one time in 7 years.
