The video was dumb, yes Trubisky had those flaws in college but thats not why he failed in the NFL - plenty of college QBs have those issues - he failed in part because he wasn't able to develop those flaws to a passable level. But in my mind the biggest problem Trubisky has is mental agility - he's not able to accurately see and diagnose the defense/plays quickly enough to find success against (good) NFL defenses. At that level you really only have 1-1.5 seconds to read a play, and not every human being has a mind capable of reliably doing that in such a short time frame. One of the things players do when they know they are "behind" in reads is learn bad habits like making decision on where to go with the ball pre-snap, or focusing in on only 1 receiver (IE removing reads).

You're also describing Deshaun Watson. He's gotten better at it and finds a way to stay clean for 3 sec to find a WR but his college 1/2 field read thing was a concern. A guy you knew would be good in the NFL because he's a gamer but not a guy you knew would be great.

With Mitch, the idea was that he wouldn't bust with pocket upside. Where's that fail buzzer?

He wasn't even that dominant in college. 5 of those 30 TD's came against college football powerhouse pitt panthers.

Believe me, I'm in total agreement with you and have been saying it since the day he was drafted.

Point is that you can find anything you want on any college player's film. He was rated highly by those that count for a reason.
Hindsight tells me he was going to be a bust or at least below average wherever he went. BFD!

I hear ya and we are on the same page. I guess maybe our only difference was that I said from the beginning that if you can't beat out Williams then somebody knows something about you and what type of player you really are.

Ya but I don't put much stock into that stuff. Joe Burrow couldn't beat out J.T. Barrett.

I also think its funny that the guy is playing this off as his own research, he's basically just repeating what Gruden said the night Mitch was drafted.

Trubs had his short comings....but.... How much do the Bears make him suck?

Cutler was ruined by this organization
just saying

That's soapbox I'm on. And why I say we don't need to dig a hole in our draft future to move up for a QB now. Build some semblance of a offense, protect the QBs we have, get them a run game and WRs that can catch their balls. When the mediocre QBs we have start playing to their ability then we can go for a good QB.
Unless we can move up for an obvious talent and we know none are entering the draft in the next 2 years we should wait.

Before the Bears could even ruin your boy Jay...Cutler went out fresh off the trade in his debut vs GB and promptly threw 10 picks on national tv.

just sayin

His debut? You mean on the Bears? With no offense to protect him or throw to? With a bad OC? There's the problem.
Guess what, it's a team game not a 1v12 game.
A year later they recognized you need more than a QB and got another bad OC. They didn't really try to get offensive players until Trestman and by then it was too late.

Until the team management figures out that it's a team game we won't have a QB no matter who it is. By the time the Bears made a half assed attempt at getting an offense his head was beat in and he was seeing ghosts that he was ruined.
Instead of taking any problems he had with Denver and helping him overcome them we made them worse and added a few more.

We did the same thing to Trubbles, an inexperienced QB. No protection, no run game, no receivers and no HC.
Even the play of the great ones falls off when they lose their star receivers or protection.

as an ardent supporter against the continuous fucking of Jay Cutler, I have to point out that lifetime the Packers had his number. it was not limited to the season opener in 2009; there were probably at least 4 other games that were next level awful. that's where the theories about the beetus and the SNF/MNF lights affected his vision or something came from. to all your other points though, the Chicago Bears really didn't build around him well. I guess that's how you get the undisputed starting QB of a team for 8 years that somehow isn't a "franchise quarterback" huh

and Burrow when he did get the chance was flat out dominant. 60 Touchdowns! Mitch not so much, he lead the team to a 8-5 record, just like Marquise Williams. Mitch was Just A Guy in college.

Can't disagree, he was next level against the Packers. Maybe they had his number or maybe it's like AZ and they had the offense's number just from film study.

It's odd how we seem to get their number (Mack's 1st game against them?) but it only lasts for part of a game.
Yet Lovie was able to be a thorn in their side for a long time. I got to wondering how it would work to build a team to specifically beat the Packers, would that translate into beating enough other teams since the Packers seem to be perennial?
But if any team in our division can continually own us we're going to have issues going anywhere so something needs to be done.

This could go in circles forever. There's examples to cover all asses in this sort of debate.

2018 Bears season opener against the Packers, they were obliterating Rodgers and keeping the ball out of his hands the first half. I don't really remember what happened in the second half, if anyone could chime in here. I just remember it being a total collapse. Bears going back to Lovie Smith just never keep the foot on the pedal and let teams back into games.

I understand the video blogger was only covering what appeared to be highlights from 3 (!?) games of Mitch's college career.... But all of you are really letting Nagy off the hook here. Mitch after John Fox still had traits worthy of development and could have ascended even further. You try scanning multiple reads when you're running for your life.

Nagy's rigidity to his crappy offense still takes 50 or 51% of any blame in my mind. Remember when they were telling Mitch to not run more? Jesus.

I'll always appreciate how much the dude was a team player and wasn't a vocal distraction when the city and the org. was dumping on him. You can be mad at how it's all worked out but simply saying "Mitch sucks," absolves the abysmal organization surrounding the turd sandwich that is being a Chicago Bears fan.
