Just watched it? I agree... it was terrible. Whole last season sucked to be honest. The first few seasons of that show was some of the best TV ever though.

The show got so stupid after the season where his woman got killed (5th or 6th I think). Can't believe they dragged the shit out another 4 seasons or whatever. It started to make me made how dumb the characters had to suddenly become in order to keep the ridiculous premises of the later seasons going.

This is what happens when a network forces a show to run longer than its internal story can hold up.
Just imagine if Breaking Bad has tried to milk 4 more season before that last one. It would have been the same thing. Would have destroyed the characters and the original arc they were on.
With a show like Breaking Bad or Dexter, the conclusion is pretty inevitable and clear from the outset (assuming they try to stay realistic and true to the characters). If they try to shoehorn an extra 4 seasons in there, it just dilutes the story, betrays the characters, and makes a mockery of the world they created. Basically it goes from a smart, tense show to a damn sitcom.

The show wasn't bad after season 4, but it set such a high standard from the first 4 seasons that it couldn't live up to that peak. Most shows with a story arc shouldn't go beyond 5 seasons honestly. That seems like the prime number. Breaking Bad did it perfectly. Spartacus was another one that got it right. Burn Notice made it to 7 seasons without becoming stale, but even that took a dramatic turn from the shows original carefree, fun loving spy premise. Supernatural is another show I got into and since season 5 they've just been pulling shit out of a hat for the main story arc. It isn't bad, just isn't as good.

Dexter just went from somewhat plausible to fucking ridiculous in season 5 or 6 or whatever. Dexter needed to either die or go to jail in the 5th season for that show to maintain any kind of integrity.
The series was building to the dexter character's natural climax, then all the sudden it was like NO WAIT! We are going to start recycling storylines for 4 more seasons. Oh and the sister is going to realize her romantic love for dexter. Oh and The sister is going to find out about dexter, but then have no meaningful confrontation for a whole season... just took an already tenuous plot and just piled on Special person.

And ffs, how long were people expected to accept that there is an unlimited supply of rampant serial killers running around Miami for Dexter to hunt?

The good seasons didn't get real good until the last 4-5 episodes of each imo. They managed to build a lot of tension by the end. But for sure in the early and middle they had a lot of fluff episodes.

Yeah it got so dumb some of the things happening started to make me angry and I stopped watching.
