I know it’s cliché but the old saying “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” really rings true.
When I worked retail I got a lot of my jobs because I knew somebody that already worked at the store or knew somebody that worked there. A friend. A friend of a friend. A relative. Something like that.
In fact the job I have now I got through a former co-worker.
So branch out and talk to your friends, family, neighbors, classmates, etc… Get out so you can talk to more people and make new friends. Join a bowling league. Whatever. The more people you know and/or talk to, the better your chances of finding a job opening somewhere.
These days just applying at random places isn’t going to get you very far.
