Sorry, I think he's just taken a bit off the chip that I have on my shoulder--and it has to do with being either a contributor or a detractor to the conversation about the local side (or sport in general). As I've said a million and one times, it's just sad that the sport so many of us here enjoy (and most of the world does as well) is denigrated by the wider sports landscape in this country to the point of being marginalised at best and antagonistically treated in media and by the common fan at worst.
When somewhere like here on this multi-sports forum a section is dedicated to a local side of said sport, it should always be a 'safe' place for people to discuss the sport and the side and issues that impact those who love it. It should NEVER be a place where the 'soccer is for ****' mentality is ever acceptable or welcomed or perpetuated. It is fantastic that Chi City Sports Forum decided to allow a Fire board, and I've been pleasantly surprised at the growth--which I hope continues in this new year. Consider the fact that many of the soccer-loving crowd already have well established discussion forums of their own--both locally and nationally (BigSoccer/Section8Chicago/etc)--so coming here and seeing this is a pleasant change of pace, but not their mainstay for the relevant conversation.
Attracting a crowd to discuss these sorts of items (as we talk about here, and some of the discussion that have not come up yet) takes moderation and a bit of a harder stance against trolling and perceived trolling; more so than it may in other places. Call it persecution syndrome of whatever you like, I'm not too bothered. Yeah, soccer fans in this country are mad. We're mad that dickheads and dillholes have made the world's game a pariah here when it should be embraced, rather than shunned. And when you find a place where it is ok to speak about, and develop actual conversation with like-minded others, those who do not contribute and just waste time and need not be tolerated.
I don't think it's asking too much to simply say if you don't like it, don't post; but I know too many haters just love to see just how annoyed soccer fans are and take the opportunity to bait almost any chance they get. It's lame and counterproductive--but hey, that's all some people have, just getting a rise out of others. Oh well. we will continue to discuss our team(s) both domestic and international, we will continue to debate topics related, we will continue to carry our passion for our sport, and we will not have our time wasted.
