I am still having a hard time seeing Williams there at 7 and being one pick short. But to the OP, you are right on. Likely the best player available fell to us in a position of need.

White is a big risk, which scares me. What made me feel alot better about the pick is the incredible hands I saw when I watched films. Soft hands and catches very fluidly. This, to go along with all the measurables, gives him a high ceiling. He is not just a speedster. He catches the ball very well.

The Bears got one of the elite talents in this draft. The Bucs drafted an idiot. The Giants drafted a projected guard at #5. The Bears did very well at 7.

One more thing, White is a better run blocker than Cooper. The Bears still want to run the ball. Although our offense could benefit from someone who can take the top off a defense (and its suprising with 4.3 speed that White doesn't do that more often.. but 40 time is overrated), the Bears are going to be a physical running team. Having 2 big WRs that can block are underrated in your running game.

Cooper would've been my preference, but that's irrelevant since Oakland took him. I'd have kept Brandon Marshall, then the Jets would've taken White. Then Bears could've drafted L Williams & upgraded the defense. In reality, all they did was create a hole, then had to use a 1st round draft pick to fill it. And the reports I'm seeing on White aren't all that encouraging. He had one good season & he can't run routes well. Not good.

Happy with the pick. Seems like a high character guy too.

If you keep Brandon Marshall how do you pay for Pernell McPhee or any of the other defensive upgrades the Bears signed, which were paid for by the savings resulted from trading Marshall's contract?

Never mind that he is aging, kooky, wants to be in NY, and is coming off significant injuries.

I would have loved Williams to have made it to us, but with him off the board, I think White was the biggest impact player on the board at that point. Do we have bigger needs than WR? Maybe, but IMO, White showed the biggest upside by far.

I suspect the coaches don't hate our d players as much as much as some here do. They were poorly coached and this draft isn't over.

Maybe when White runs his route into the stands, he can grab a couple of hot-dogs and beef up a bit.

Pace allowed them to beat him TWICE. First for Scherff, then with Williams. Both of those guys would have been impact players for the Bears. White will not be anymore than a 3rd receiver in the NFL. Hell, he'll be lucky to beat out Wilson.
How did he get beat exactly?

When White makes his first pro bowl appearance and you 180, I'll remember this.

The absolute worst player that they should have picked is a wide receiver. They should have taken any other damn position even if it was a reach. There were two or three decent OTs, Shelton as a DT. A shit load of LBs and even safeties/cbs. I hate that pick. It was stupid.

While I disagree with "reaching", I agree that taking a WR was dumb.

As a side note, there were several players available that were comperable to BPA, would have filled a need, and would not have been considered reaches.

YOu do know that he wasn't recruited out of high school? You know that White played junior college football before he went to West Virginia? YOu know that he really has never faced press coverage in his entire life. West Virginia spread him out side right and he had space to work in. He is going to get pressed off of the line, bumped around a lot and I doubt that he will ever run over the middle. I think the guy is going to be a one trick pony and an NFL bust. He had one major college season in not a strong footbal conference.

White is far from a run blocker. COme-on. Calling on an outside speed guy to block for the run almost never happens. If and when these guys block, they block for other receivers, not running backs. If this guy blocks twice a game, it would surprise me.

You don't know how the Bears graded those players out.

I wouldn't say I'm unhappy with the pick, just sort of nonplussed. White's basically an Alshon Jeffrey clone rather than a compliment to Jeffrey. He doesn't consistently create a lot of separation, but he consistently outmuscles people and wins jump balls and catches in traffic.

And I know what White ran at the combine, but he absolutely does not look 4.35 40 fast on the field.

I don't mean this to sound like I don't think White is a good player. I think he's a very good player, arguably BPA when we picked, but we already have a nearly identical player.

Personally, I'd have taken Shelton or Ray (even with the surgery and crippling marijuana addiction) at #7.

I also think if we were determined to draft a WR in the first round, Nelson Agholor would be a much better chemistry fit to pair with Jeffrey (and we could have traded down quite a bit and still snagged him).

Then you will be surprised. White is an excellent run blocker. WV would often run to his side of the field to take advantage of his run blocking. They also used him as a blocker quite a bit in their screen game.

Holy shit, you were involved in the scouting with Ryan Pace? What's his second round list look like?
