You sure that's not an NHL rule? Going so many miles from the home teams location?
Why then wouldn't it apply to Comcast? We get all the games on CSN...NONE of those on WGN.

Comcast is not National, in order for them to put the games on WGN for you to get them in Rockford they would have to be broadcast on WGN America not WGN Chicago, and if they did that games would have to go out to every WGN station in the world.... and that is unfortunately against NHL rules. We've been over this.

It sucks that the Winnipeg game is on a Wednesday. I would have gone up if it were on a saturday. So Tampa is playing 2 preseason games in the peg this year? The hawks on the 22nd, and the oilers on the 24th?

I already paid for the tickets, so I might as well go. Besides, I go to prospect camp to watch guys fight for jobs, why wouldn't I go to preseason games? Prospect camp certainly isn't boring...the 20 page thread in the prospects section is evidence of that.

If anyone wishes to donate their unused preseason game tickets, I'd be more than willing to take them off your hands. I love watching how the top prospects of each team are fairing against each other (and being mixed into the fray with their NHL counterparts). It's like an AHL/NHL hybrid game... or an ANHL game.

True but look at it this way. Rockford is actually considered by the NHL to in the home area (that is my understanding). If that is the case then why do you in Chicago and in the suburbs get to watch WGN Chicago on cable when we can not? Ultimately this is a cable carrier question but I believe it is something the Blackhawks could address when setting their contracts for tv viewership. It has not been addressed for three years and even after communicating this with the Blackhawks it has yet to be resolved.

So, not only do the WGN broadcasts and their broadcasters suck tremendously, they also

suck because of not addressing this issue. Honestly, get ready for this, I blame part of this

on McD and his love affair with WGN.

I thought this issue has been hashed out.

It probably has to do with that somewhere in the NHL television contracts that WGN cannot broadcast games nationally (NBC/Versus). I'm not sure if that's the case, but if McD and company could allow games outside the general area, they'd do so. Do they televise Braves baseball on TBS anymore? If not, when did it stop?

The next best thing is to pony the near $200 and buy the NHL ticket. Otherwise, there are feeds that give you the games for free like atdhe.net.

Or you could come here every three months and post the same complaint.

Edit:

I know that many teams have local affiliates that broadcast a handful of games as well (outside of Comcast/FOX Sports Net). I know St Louis and Minnesota do this at times. Not sure if this is something within the TV contract-- meaning that if WGN didn't pick up these games, WCIU would-- or no one would.

I guess I would care more if I lived outside the general area (not saying this to be a dick-- I would care more).

Send me a PM a little closer to the actual date. With a then-9 month old at home, I doubt we go to more than 1-2 preseason games, tops, and I am guessing they will be the non-televised one(s). I'd be glad to help you out with the others.

I would but since I'm paying for them unless I sell them for what I paid for them, I'm going. 130$ per seat.

You can't sell preseason and breakeven on them. I'm lucky to get 30 cents on the dollar in most cases. This year we play Detroit and Pitt in preseason so maybe I can get 40 cents on the dollar. But overall it's a losing venture. I view it as a sunk cost and make it back on other games during the regular season that I can't attend.

I sold every year last year for face value. My seats are premium. In years past what you say is true. Not these days though.

Really?? Face value? Wow - where are you selling them - Stubhub? I'm doing something wrong then cause I've been eating them for the most part the last 6 years.

I just can't get into it - I've tried in the past and just found it painful to go to the UC to watch a game that didn't count. I didn't have any fun and decided it wasn't for me. Now I take the approach of 'figure out your final roster and I'll show up with lots of energy on opening night'.
Seeing as many of us sat through the '05-06 season it's not that hard.

You should be able to sell them for face easily.

Stub Hub or ticket exchange.

Where do you sit? This will be the 3rd year in a row I'll have absolutely no problem getting at least face for EVERY game I chose not to go to.

You referring to this upcoming season or previous seasons? I'm in 302 near center ice. My cost last year was $40 face. I listed on Stubhub early at $19 and could not sell them. Most of my competition was around $10-$15 for comparable seats. When I dropped my price to $12 they finally sold but that was 30 cents on the dollar. Now that my price has risen to $50 face I just don't see anyone paying that for preseason but I will try. And last year there was a lot of hype cause the Hawks went to the 3rd round so I'm not referring to the misery years here.
