Fox lake shooting, for those in the far NW

A community an hour north of Chicago was on lockdown and a massive manhunt for three armed and dangerous suspects was underway after a police officer was fatally shot Tuesday morning.

Helicopters were circling above Fox Lake, Ill., and every law enforcement agency from the area, along with a regional SWAT team and K-9 units were hunting for as many as three suspects after the police officer was shot around 8 a.m. local time. Authorities confirmed to FOX32 that the officer had died.

The area being searched by police, in the northeastern portion of the state, was described as wooded and rural. The three suspects were involved in a traffic stop with the officer earlier Tuesday. Two male suspects are white and one is black, according to Lake County Sheriff's Det. Chris Covelli.

Police in northern Illinois say a manhunt is underway after an officer was shot and killed while pursuing a group of suspicious men.

The officer radioed in Tuesday morning to tell dispatchers he was chasing three men on foot, but communication was lost shortly after, according to Covelli. The officer's backup arrived to find him injured with a gunshot wound. The officer died on the scene.


The first I knew of it was earlier this morning when a swat tank rolled down route 120.

The reporting on this blows ass. No solid description of the suspects, and it has been hours.

They stopped the incoming train, and for all i know train service is still suspended. the schools are on lock down, and have been since the beginning thankfully.

Aside from that, who the **** knows what is going on.
I have been all over that area today, and aside from a white guy and a black guy, I have no fucking clue what to look for... not really a good description.

You would imagine the dash cam would have at least a blurry pic of the guys they could release.

There is also a typo on the nbc story... the road is actually "Sayton" road, not dayton.

I was talking to my cop son in law about maybe it is time to have 2 cops in the car so they can watch each others back. He agrees. At least he has his K-9 to help him.

If towns cannot afford the 2 per car manpower, they could at least add an extra guy or 2 on each shift and have the officers wait for backup to arrive before confronting anyone.

So, coverage wise, all we know now is they were investigating 3 suspicious men.
Were they peeping in to the womens gym that is right there?
skulking around the oil change place?

A buddy of mine owns a shop right at that intersection, and he has no light to shed on it either... said he asked what and where the guys were, who called it in... no answers, just 3 dudes, considered armed.
No insight as to where the suspects went... not a very coordinated effort so far.

Schools all the way out to woodstock are on a soft lockdown as of this time.

just went by there... saw Mchenry city, Mchenry county, round lake, volo, wauconda, lake county sheriff, johnsburg, and lakemoor vehicles.

Cnn says there are FBI and ATF agents as well....

This is getting pretty damn large.

That's how it works now. 2 cars show up. I'm also thinking about the cop at the gas station in Texas. If it's going to be open season on cops they need 2 cops for every car. I would be willing to pay more taxes to have more cops. Yes I know. I have one in my family.

Pretty sure it is protocol to wait for back-up prior to confronting 3 male suspects.

This was a head shot, the dead Lt. was very close to the perp. He may have been executed while patting one down. Finding these 3 will be a challenge without any description.

The no description thing really sucks- you have to assume since descriptions have not been made public, they do not have one.

There are so damn many small shops out there, and I know many of them have cameras... hopefully they can pull some info off of someones security camera.

The very reason he tried to detain those subjects was the very reason he should have waited for back-up. 3 males walking down the street in Chicago early on a business morning could very well be heading for the nearest bus stop. However, those same 3 men in a place like Fox Lake would arouse suspicion.

Suspicion that turned out correct, only how in hell are you going to check 3 guys for weapons by yourself?...you don't.

These 3 will get caught b/c 3 people can never keep their mouth shut for very long.
