Umm.. how is he not one of the best?

for starters he inherited a very good team. 2003 the bosox won 95 games. He took over in 2004, Add the fact that the bosox spent ALOT of money on their teams, more than what the cubs will be spending. francona wouldnt be inheriting a very good team.....NO ONE KNOWS how he would be managing a team that doesnt buy their players. it is pretty simple CO. but than again you probably would take the current cubs over any one of those WS winning red sox teams.

I agree unless the guy is like Quade and leaves the pitchers in too long

(obviously no manger could of got last years team to the playoffs but Quade cost us a few games IMO.)

This is the worst thing that managers today can do since pitching is such a valuable commodity. That is the biggest worry, and to me the most important thing since the only guy with top of the rotation stuff is going to have to be handled with kids glove unless we want to see post 2003 redux.

Quade wasn't a good manager, and he certainly did cost us a few games. So it is a good move to get him out of here and hire a new manager. That said, this move isn't the one that is going to change this team from second division to contender.

Francona seems like a kind man who can develop effective chemistry with the players but.... he doesn't have a mustache and he could be damaged goods after what happened in Boston.

No thanks.

So the Cubs managerial position is so good Francona would rather sit out 2012 than take it

What then does that say about Francona if the Cubs were his only option to manage next year?
