Would anyone happen to know if one exists that actually works, or should I just pay for it?.

I have a bunch of registry errors that need to go.

TY in advance.

Yerp, although the order wont matter a whole lot unless you have item1 blocking item2(this will be frustratingly obvious), now just develop some safe browsing habits, and you'll be good to go.

I haven't had a virus in 16 years. All it takes, is understanding who the scammers want to attack, and why. Yes, it's a bit unfair at times for me to say 16 years because I run a *nix environment 60% of the time. But I still run all versions of windows and a few versions of MacOS, OS/2 and some other oddballs.

I went ahead and installed last night, the programs work really well. There were noticeable improvements immediately, thanks again!.

Also try superantispyware portable

That registry cleaner did the trick, most of the adware were from google chrome browser...and a LOT of this stuff comes from marketing agencies gathering data etc.

In fact, I like the product enough to pay for the upgrade. I have existing AV/SW installed, and this program is nice added security/maintenance.

Would you be so kind as to answer 1 more question?. Windows 7 is unable to update itself b/c it cannot find a system restore point automatically...screen just stays on searching indefinitely. Should I create one manually via safe mode, and if so should I use the last known good configuration or simply create a date?.

TY again

Last known good configuration only works when there was a hardware change.

What is the exact error and error message you are getting?

My system restore is currently disabled, it's grayed out under advanced settings. I think I have to resolve it w/boot options?.

I would try to update manually first.

System restore can cause more problems than is solves. But it's a last resort. Then yes, do it at boot, because it's either disabled or something is in conflict.

It's a virus infecting windows...most likely a google generated one. This one I have to pay my IT guy for, b/c I cannot remove it. The control panel has been accessed on that computer...I cannot even add or remove programs. The boot menu on that computer is useless.

This is why I suggest that everyone have a live-disc laying around, for such events.

A live disc is a linux-on-disc CD/DVD that you can boot, and it has to be recent enough to support all of your critical hardware, like network and display. It also has to support mounting NTFS/FAT(or HFS for OSX) volumes(which isn't a problem nowadays).

Well, you are absolutely correct...I had no installed back-up in any form to begin with. My former, yes former IT guy quit on me after a 3 hour ordeal...before I could even offer to pay him. He figured out how to get past the 1 item I missed 4/system restore, then he remotely uninstalled your suggested programs that were working fine. He then proceeded to install Lavasoft as a replacement, that's when I shut him down from his remote access program. Then he hung up on me when I called to explain why.

So, now I have no tech guy...lol.

lavasoft adaware is good too. There are a lot of good programs. But why some tech people stay loyal, when better solutions come out every so many months, is beyond me.

I used to love spybot S&D, Ad-aware, ect. But for the last few years, malwarebytes has done a better job, especially because it starts the scan by reading memory addresses and not just files on the computer.

Okay, so can you start/run "msconfig" ? Then you can see what is loading at startup, and maybe something sticks out that hijacks your shell kernel.

If you can't do much, consider backing up your important files, then wipe/reinstall windows.

I'm going to wipe it clean and re-install windows, this guy I was paying wasn't as good as I thought, and windows still refuses to update. The AV/AS is free Avast, which has been auto-updating like crazy...perhaps that needs an upgrade as well b/c somehow the virus got through it.

These people spend their lives inventing shit to beat whatever we have. I visit any site barring porn, but as far as I'm concerned I should be able to visit satan's own website without a problem...lol

If there's a program out there that will perform that, I'll be more than happy to pay for lock-down security.

Everyone should become minimally independent from IT folk anyways. Most of them have a god complex when you are in your darkest computer hours., **** em. Computers have gotten so easy, they have gotten obsolete. Plus, if they're assholes about it, nobody will miss them.

Good luck and look at this, as a good thing, because you can start clean. Once the installation is done, you'll feel so much better, even with stuff missing.
