Bears aren't ready to compete for a SB. Garret is 29 , had injuries., wants a big contract. Mack is cheaper on 2 year deal, draft his replacement this year. Let young player grow and learn from him. Personally I would go after Drew Dalman since the draft is weak in Center position. Then sign a slot WR and go after Stanley hard. I would rather pay for an Elite LT money than a good Guard like Smith. Milton Williams is an intriguing FA. Bears should after him too. Get a guard like Zeitler and draft for DE 1st and Oline in 2nd, 3rd RB. rest a Center, Safety, WR, and LB.

I certainly hope they don’t trade for Garrett. This team needs a lot more than a DE and Poles needs to nail several of these early picks.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if they went with Chase Young.

Would love Mack to return but I would assume he chases a ring
I think i'm now leaning towards a Mathew Judon or Demarcus Lawrence and then still draft a DE with one of the top 3 picks who could come in and play behind those two and Sweat for a year or two.

This isnt what I want, its what I think they will do. Really suspect they are going DE in the first unless someone special falls.
If they can sign one of the top G's and then get another legit starter at G or C then i'm all for drafting DE, 3T, DT at #10.

I would bet on Young plus a rookie. Agree that a DE will be drafted
The thing that really bothers me about C.Young is now it's been confirmed in New Orleans that he takes plays off or doesn't give full effort all the time just like what was said about him in Washington. I wouldn't hate it because he still racks up QB pressures but we need hits and sacks because as i've been saying since we traded for him, Sweat is not a big time sack producer. The most he's ever had was the year we traded for him which he had 12 total sacks between the Bears and Wash.

This is correct. But you aren’t just spending the 10th.
Correct…you’re spending the #10 and the bears would very likely go DL anyway there…and also a future 1st which would likely be a late 1st round pick …plus some $$$ on a Garrett extension. I’m more than good with that. Whatever DL the bears would draft at 10 wouldn’t be in the same stratosphere as Garrett anyway.

Now, in an ideal world….id prefer Mack on a 1-2 yr deal and keeping my draft assets….but Garrett gives you a longer runway and it would obviously depend on if the bears could secure Mack in FA or not. None of the other FA edges really do anything for me. They’re all going to get overpaid and aren’t the high end pass rushers you’re really looking for.

The numbers being tossed around social media to sign Trey Smith are pretty silly. People are saying $23-$25M... Hell No.
A lot of people think the cap is going to be increased BIG TIME after this upcoming season. If it goes up significantly, that contract doesn’t look too bad.

Still, I think if we get Zeitler, Dalman or Kelly, and drafted a few olinemen (preferably an OT to start at guard and a guard to take over when Braxton Jones leaves next year), then I think this OLine still looks really good without Smith. Maybe Kiran is ready to go as a G when Zeitler retires, or we add another another project G. There are a lot of options, we might be able to get quality production at guard for next season without spending top dollar. I am starting to think throwing a ton of money at smith is desperation. I hope we are able to fix the position without breaking the bank.

How has that gone for Poles so far?
