I don't know if anybody heard Kashul on the postgame, but the last caller hit a homer. He basically made the case for BG. Kashul cut him off, and basically said, if we sign Ben, then we lose our chances at a free agent in 2010. Of course, the caller also mentioned that Kirk should have been traded for expirings contracts, but Steve ignored that essential part of the caller's point.
Jerry Reinsdorf interview, 7.21.2009
"Actually, we made a decision a year ago not to commit long term to Ben...we withdrew the offer we had on the table. Ben ultimately came in and said he would take it. But it was too late. Now, fast-forward to the end of the year. We have [John] Salmons and a hell of a three-guard rotation with Salmons, [ Kirk] Hinrich and Derrick [Rose]. Ben wasn’t going to get a whole lot of playing time. His time was going to be diminished. And now we’ve added [Jannero] Pargo for the limited time the fourth guard will get. Ben just no longer fit. He’s a terrific player. But he needs minutes. And he wouldn’t have been happy with the minutes he was going to get here."
That offer was for 6 years, 54 million...9 per year...A per year less than Kirk's. Of course, Kashul neglected to mention that. We could of had Ben at a smaller per year, and then traded Kirk for expirings...and actually had MORE room to sign a free agent.
What really set me over the top was, of course, Kashul ended the show with a "we miss Kirk" comment. We shot 39% tonight. Kirk's shooting 36%. How the hell was he going to help us tonight? Our offense sucks, and he was a big part of the problem. He isn't a solution for that end.
What's the over-under on the date when Reinsdorf, Forman, Wennington, Gorches,Carol Slezak, Funk, etc....finally admit we miss BG. I'd say never.
One more time...why exactly would Bosh want to come here?
