The grass fence idea is bad ass.

The native plantings are super cool too. I love native landscaping.
thanks, I consider it a lot of upfront work that won't require a lot of attention going forward. The fence idea only cost $200 and me digging a trench to keep it "irrigated" I took wheelbarrows full of landscaping stone my wife didn't want surrounding the house and moved it into the ditch. I'll stick to mulch for the landscaping areas and am banning landscaping fabric from the property.

Oh one other thing that I found wild, Prickly pear cactus grows well here. It's actually capable of taking over. I think it will do quite nicely around my picture window areas and might even deter someone from breaking in.

For real on the cactus?
I grew up on arizona, and as kids we would pull the purple parts off the prickly pears and whip them at each other. We were shitheads.

... I just googled it, I cant believe they grow here... I am totally going to have my buddy ship me some.

**** that guy. Put up your wood fence right at the edge of your property. Nothing he can do about it. It's your property. Love the grass idea.
fwiw, they'll be dead soon but honestly it saved me about 4-5K and will end up looking prettier and there's still a fence on the other side of it for when I get the dogs.

I am going to google how you did that and try for some fruit trees- that sounds fascinating and fun!

That's not even half the fun. Google "espalier" to see what I am doing with all these trees and fence posts.

Planted asparagus myself this year and since it could be a ten year perennial,I made sure to watch the vids, dig the ditches and hopefully do it right. Now I have to put another 2 inches of soil over em every two weeks or so or as soon as they break ground I guess.....wore me right out!

I plant three 36' high 4'X10' raised beds and I have a pretty big, pumpkin, squash, miscellaneous patch.
You are going to need a long ladder to get up to your 36' high raised beds to harvest your veggies.

Almost bought a noise years ago with several mature espalier trees…Apple maybe? Anyway didn’t happen but it was pretty cool.

Sounds dope @HeHateMe

I just built my wife 1 4x8 raised garden bed. She has cucumbers, radishes and tomatoes going in pots right now and will move them over soon. We’ll see how it goes but I envision I’ll end up doing all the work which I told her is exactly what I don’t want

Prickly pear tea and jam are great. I was making that growing up in Tucson. Exciting!

For experienced pumpkin and watetmelon growers- do you keep the vines trimmed or just let them go?

I have been just leaving the vines alone, and they never amount to much... usually one good sized one and a bunch that flower and then do nothing.
Should I be clipping buds or the vine to direct the energy to a few select pumpkins?

Pumpkins need a shit ton of fertilizer to produce,I'll dig a deeper hole and throw in a shovel full of mushroom compost with 2" of soil over it before I put in the seeds or plants.......they like miracle grow too.....everything does.
If you want a number of small-med pumkins for the kids, just lt em roll but if you want big ones, prune em down.

Seven large raised beds fully planted, and mid-June is when my stone-fruit and apple trees begin producing, can't wait. Hopefully my 4-year old avocado trees begin producing this year for the first time.

All that remains to do is replant the 4 cannabis plants outside into 50-gallon fabric grow-bags, and to add protection from my dozen free-range hens. And I don't have to do any of that work, I entered into a partnership with a weed expert who is at the @truthbedamned ninja level, the deal is that I host the plants and furnish the water source, and he does 100% of the labor. In November we split the harvest 50/50.

Now that is a deal. Keep your gardner away from them.

I trust my gardner, 2 years ago when I had about 8 lbs. of bud on the vine he didn't go anywhere near it, and yes I was keeping a watchful eye on my Nest cams to be sure. It wasn't him that concerned me, I was watching my kids' friends - their eyes lit up when they came over and saw my forest of dank.

I just remember the mold issue:) I am growing four brand new strains that nobody in the world has had. Very excited to see the finished product.

Yeah, I prob could have salvaged some buds from those infected plants but I wasn't up for much risk-taking, was a painful time to toss 6+ pounds of buds into the trash.

What are these mystery strains you have and where did you source them?

Story: I decided to sell my 20x10 greenhouse so my wife stuck it on marketplace. One guy messed around messaging her for a week or so and talked me down to 150.00. I had taken it all apart and put it in my shop. Guy called and said he would pick it up at 2. I freaked cause I have 2 tents and had just hung my amnesia haze to dry. So I spent an hour moving it onto the driveway. Guy shows up and I start helping him load it into the truck I ask him what he is going to grow in it. He turns around and says "clones". Come to find out he is a microbiologist that has his own farm about 20 minutes from me. He has invited me to his farm when he gets back from Boston where he is attending a course on how to grow plants simply from cells scraped off the leaves. He told me not to worry about buying seeds anymore. Said I could come to his farm anytime I wanted and take clones.

He won the Emeralds cup for a strain he created last year. It was some hybrid Banana Cream. When he talks I can't understand half of what he is saying because it is way over my head. And he does love to talk. I sent him a text asking him how he deals with spider mites and my phone rang 10 seconds later and we talked for almost an hour. I told him he didn't need to call me and his response was that marijuana is his passion and he loves to talk about it anytime.

As he told me when he was getting ready to leave. "It's really not just a weed."

He also said to stop growing autoflowers as the genetics are not good. Said grow regular plants and when you are ready for flower just go 12x12 with your lights.

P.S. He also said he has pretty much stopped growing sativa because his trimmers charge him twice the price of indica dominant because they are such a pain to trim. And believe me. I know that pain.
