I know at one time you were liking Markakis as a fit for the Cubs a year ago I believe. Just wondering if it still exists?
I would entertain the idea of getting him in a package deal even if it meant losing Soler and maybe Hendricks and a prospect, if the Cubs could get a pitcher like Teheran or Miller, and Markakis. Picking up his salary would help the Braves, and probably lessen the blow of the prospect haul for a starter.
At least the Cubs would get a young pitcher, a lead-off guy and a former two-time GG'er in RF.
Just want to know your thoughts on it.
I did want Markakis, a better career hitter than Gardner and he doesn't fizzle out the way Gardner has done after June 20th the past 2 years. Same level defensively but Markakis at this point in his career is a RF 140 games a year. Need a CF, not another corner OF.
I dont think the Braves are trading Tehran, but you never know with a team with the arrow pointing toward "rebuilding." Maybe Miller, but doubtful. I'd bet they'd be willing to dangle Foltynewicz before the other two. And at 23, Foltynewicz would be a guy I'd love to see Bosio fix. Guy needs to fix up his change up and get better at the cutter, but the Fastball/breaking ball combo is there. I also dont think Foltynewicz wont cost an arm and a leg.
Bruce Levine and the Chicago Sun Times said the cubs are doing their homework on Shelby Miller. I still cant believe they dealt Andrelton Simmons. Cant do Miller for Baez straight up unless Atlanta has an extra helping of stupid. Baez and Hendricks I'd do in a second.
