Just as many of us have been saying for months, the Vikings are not going to see Sam Darnold as the long term answer. And if he’s not the long-term answer, $38+ million is a lot to dole out for a guy when you have a high first rounder waiting in the weeds.

And if they decide to work out a contract instead of tagging Darnold, that’s more like $50 mil, which would be basically 2/3 of their available cap space.

All that for a guy who can’t buy a score in the playoffs on a neutral field.

Get real—The Vikings are not keeping Sam Darnold.

Damn all of Darnold’s passes are so inaccurate.

His receivers are really helping him out now

I posted this in the playoff IGT, but I think Darnold gets a contract very similar to what Baker got last year from he Bucs, which is 3 years, 100 million.

As bad as Darnold looked over the last two (important) games, he still had a great season overall. There are a projected 6-7 teams that will be in need of a QB, and there won't be 6 QBs available via the draft and free agency, so there is definitely a demand there. Someone will give him a decent contract, but will they regret it? I guess we'll know in a year.

But will he be a day 1 starter next year like Justin Fields?

Tag Sam Darnold, keep Daniel Jones and if JJ McCarthy beats Darnold out in camp you trade him and run McCarthy with a pretty good backup. It’s literally so easy and the Vikings are non-Special person organization who don’t **** this sort of thing up.

Vikings have literally three quarterbacks better than Caleb Williams.

Yea but he cost himself like 100m if he just played well the last two weeks. Not even great.

He was on pace to make 40-50. Some team would have risked it

Just a reminder this is the guy who thinks Caleb Williams is a bust without JJ McCarthy playing a snap.

He’s got brain damage

Oh, I agree. If, hypothetically, the Vikings beat the Lions last week with Darnold having a great game, and if he won a playoff game or at least played great in a loss, I could have seen someone pay him 50 million a year over 4 years. So, given my projection of 3-years, 100 million, I would agree that he cost himself 100 mil.

But we'll see come March. If there is a desperate team (or 2) that really needs a QB and Darnold's agent can turn a situation into a bidding war, he may get more than he's worth. It also depends on what the cap is going to look like.

Congratulations on your upcoming Super Bowl appearance. Just keep in mind it's just an appearance to lose to an AFC team.

Jayden probably runs all over that team. The lions d looked nice against the Vikings but we now see that darnold is just ass cheeks.

I knew Caleb Williams was a bust when I saw him get pasted by ND in college. Not “thought”, “knew”. Remember that this time next year when you’re asking how it all went so wrong with Mr. Generational.

McCarthy will be their starter in 2025
