My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Michigan Wolverines
  2. Purdue Boilermakers
I remember my first Bears game. I was 8 and it was in old Tampa stadium. Bears lost 20-17 when Butler's field goal sailed wide. I've gone to quite a few games with my dad. We even went to see the Dolphins play the Colts in Indianapolis when Marino broke the TD record.

If you don't mind a little drive, you can stay in Saint Joseph. About an hour away from Kansas city.

My first game was at the 1991 wildcard playoff game against the cowboys. You can tell times have changed in terms of tickets b/c we went on a lark. We were visiting friends in Chicago over the holidays. We got scalped tickets (6 sold in pairs in different sections) and went in. I was on the 4th row in the endzone. Got to see Jimmy Mac visiting on the sidelines and Waddle pretty much concuss himself into oblivion. It's also the game that cemented my utter and deeply held hatred for the cowboys, lol. :)

It only took 22 years to get to my 2nd game against the Ravens in 2013. :) A 2 hour tornado delay and an amazing win with a field goal. Next year I hope to get to another home game, and maybe this time against a division opponent. I'll definitely be going to London when we play there next b/c I'll bet my father-in-law and maybe a friend or two from Dublin would be willing to go as well.

Awesome! Congrats on the first milestone that matters in a man's life.

If I can make a feeble attempt at advice in the hopes that it helps enrich the experience: Try to explain the fundamentals of the game in detail beforehand (but on a pared down level, think of him as an average poster on this board), and again during the game.

Don't assume that he understands what you are talking about, ask questions about what he is seeing, it will engage him more even if he is super into it to begin with.

Have him tuned into the momentum changes in the game and how the crowd reacts when it happens. Even if the only thing he takes away from his first in-person game is the energy from the crowd, it is a moment of glory he will remember for the rest of his life.

Prepare ahead of time and respect the significance of the moment (not to imply that you wouldn't.)

Also: Keep him away from the drunkards, and keep him warm. My first Bears game was before I even had a clue what football was, and I froze my ass off. I was like 6 and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was just thinking about that this weekend when it got cold out at night, several decades later, and the memory of the feeling that day of bitter cold combined with whipping winds popped into my head.

Is 9 too young for the first beer?

We made it to KC in quick time and are eating breakfast at Winsteads.

Anyone, who traveled doing some tailgating?

He just turned 9 so this is his birthday present. We live close enough to drive to KC and see the Bears. He's getting super excited and is finally old enough where he hasn't been getting bored part way through the game. I wish his first game could have been a home one, but this will do and there's always next year.

This will be my third game in three years with my wife. Let's hope her Irish luck keeps up and we win like we did against the Jets in NYC and the Ravens at home.

Hopefully we'll have time to hit up the Woodyard for some BBQ before we have to get back home too. :)

Just thought I'd share as the excitement is building. Now if StubHub would just be able to have official/commemorative tickets instead of printing them off with someone else's name on them.

I know this season has been pretty low so far, but there have been a lot of bright spots IMO. I'm still rooting for the team to win rather than for a better draft position, but that's just me.

BEAR DOWN!

Very good game for his first. Was the crowd made up entirely of Bears fans? The cheering seemed deafening on TV.

Glad you got to see a good game involving a Cutty comeback win.

The crowd noise on both sides was insane. Arrowhead and KC fans are legit.

But the Bears fans deafeningly chanted, "Let's go Bears!" over and over. It was awesome.

I can tell you there were a lot of Bears fans representing.

Awesome first game!

It really was. Man that was fun. We are all fried from the sun, lol.

He was getting high fives from all the surrounding Bears fans and had an absolute blast. He said it was his best birthday gift ever. :)

So friggin many Bears fans. Could the "let's go Bears" chants be heard on the TV broadcast?

Yes they could, and it was impressive! The commentators mentioned how many Bears fans there were several times. Bear Down!

That is awesome to hear. I always love hearing our chant of "Let's go Bears" at away games. I could not be happier or prouder of this team than in yesterday's win. I came away with a lot of impressions and will write them down in a bit. I think I'm going to plunk down the cash for the NFL team thing so I can watch games I miss on TV. It's only 20 bucks for the season, so not too shabby.
