I really don't trust Theo when it comes to F/A. His track record is pretty sketchy.

Trades on the other hand he gets right more than not.

And what will they do with that savings?

2/1/19Chicago Cubs signed free agent RHP Tony Barnette.

12/23/18Chicago Cubs signed free agent RHP Kendall Graveman.

12/18/18Chicago Cubs signed free agent 2B Daniel Descalso.

Im not following your logic. Because Theo made signings last year. He should throw away 4.5 million on a guy with domestic issues and complete regression in his overall game?

Dude 7.3 ->3.3 DEF is still above league avg.

Add to it ya lost his job to Javy. Then the media hate. And addapting to off position. And trying to do too much to prove his worth.

Like I said. He is a stupid 25 yo kid still. His actions show his immaturity and ya that situation did factor.

End of the day his D > Nico at 2B. But Nico > greater package > Russell.

Regardless Theo most likely offers arb here.

I bet they dont. He has no value on trade market and he has no place on the team. Ricketts has come and said they arent spending big this off season. Theo will need every dollar.

Spending big means Yu type cash. Not a 3-5 mil opt. That is chump change to the Ricketts.

But

Russell was worse defensively at SS and 2nd base then any time of his career. His bat was terrible and he is looking at over 4.5 million dollars in arbitration. The Cubs need to cut ties and move on.

No one is trading for him.

Yeah, the idea that Russell still has some sort of upside at this point just needs to stop. He is what he is: An all-glove, no-bat IF who'll give your org a massive black eye by signing him (as opposed to the actual black eyes he'll give his significant other).

Who the hell would trade for that?
