To all those who played the game what position did you play, what number did you wear, and why did you wear that number?

I played Strong side OLB in a 34 and wore the #58 because I wanted to be like Derrick Thomas who I thought was the greatest OLB to ever do it. I used to watch his highlights with my Dad and try and imitate the way he played the game.

79, DT. First team all city, 2nd team all state. Picked #79 because the guy who had the bench press record had that number and bench was my best powerlift.

That's awesome. Did you play NT or 3-tech?

I was a punter in HS. No great shakes at it either I'm afraid. I guess it's no wonder I know jack sh*t about football. Wore the number 4 because it was my hockey number. That sport I was kinda OK at.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Did you prefer playing CB or S?

#87, Tom Waddle. Played small school Illinois football. TE/DE, probably more of a stand up OLB in a 4-4 than a DE. All conference both ways and was an All area selection at DE. Ah.... the good ol days (fall of 1993).

I didnt play football until our coach talked me into playing in the 12th grade. i basically played baseball year rd - made it to college before tearing my rotator cuff.

I Wore 22 because thats what they gave me. I played both ways at RB/DB/KR/PR/ST/P/DT

I was raw as hell and always wanted to play FS/SS but i couldnt tackle worth a damn in the open field - i tried laying everyone out, which led to lots of misses. So, I started there on D but they moved me to 3Tech since the I had power and speed and they wanted my athleticism on the field somewhere - plus the senior the yr before graduated leaving a hole. Though i didnt have the size, I did well considering i was 5-10 215-220 and ended up with 40 something tackles and 12 sacks.

I got a few snaps at RB per game, i only got one start when our starter (he went to the U) was out for a game, i racked up 180 yards against the 3rd rank team in the state - zero tds though (1 was called back).

I rotated in at KR/PR about once a game, I only had one return for a td.

I was on st coverage teams too.

I was also the back up punter.

I played QB and DE through HS, and ILB after that. I also wore #58, but after my favorite player as a kid, Jack Lambert.

Love the #58 which is why it was so hard watching that scrub DJ Williams wearing it past couple years. I never played ILB but I did play SAM in a 43 my first season before switching to SAM in a 34 the following year which I played from there on out.

I also played RT in addition to OLB one year and played RB in an emergency role once (didn't go so well)

I tried out football in the local club (Aarhus Tigers, wohooo!) when I was about 14 or 15. I was used on both lines, as I was a pretty fat kid (maybe 6'0 and 250 pounds). But I only practiced with the team two or three times before my left knee decided to quit on me. It sucked donkey balls, as I really enjoyed pushing people around.

They timed me at 6.3 in the 40yd dash. I still find that hysterical. But hey, I made it the entire 40 yards without falling over due to exhaustion.

The position I played most often was prone.

#32 because that was what they kept giving me.

DB. Second string high school only. Saw time at nickel and special teams (mostly kickoffs).

Moment of glory was junior year homecoming game...picked off a slant route like a Pro late in fourth quarter to seal the win. Probably the only reason I made the team senior year.

Moment of shame. My senior year ended early with three broken ribs thanks to the opposing kicker.

(No lie....this kicker was 260 and played guard too)

Was this kicker's last name Janikowski by any chance? That fat blob could probably upgrade the Raiders' O-line.

This was the south side of Chicago...so big polish kickers were probable. I do not remember that many letters on the jersey, but I probably had a concussion too.
