I played left defensive end in a 4-3 and TE on offense.

Never got to really catch any passes mostly used as a 2nd string/blocker.

I honestly loved playing special teams more than anything. I blocked a punt my freshman year. That was probably the biggest play I ever had.

Started getting in trouble with the cops when I was a junior so my playing days ended rather early.

My freshman year in college was Israel Idonije's last year.

One practice a Browns scout came to watch practice and the game that week.

I have never seen a 1 on 1 session like he put on.

I was his back up and I took 0 practice reps that week. It was awesome.

Wore #80 my senior and sophomore years of high school. Played TE because I was too slow to play WR but I had great hands. Not that it mattered. Our team couldn't pass for shit. Caught around 20 balls for a couple TDs my sophomore year. I only caught one pass my two years of varsity combined. I was basically a third tackle instead of a TE (even though I was only 180). Me and my buddy like to joke we were the best LT in the state. We probably ran the ball behind us 70% percent of the time.

Same here. Almost to a tee. Similar stats as soph, weight, archaic offense. Except I was pretty fast (once ran sub 4.5). Problem is, I played on a team with guys who won the 4×100 relay a couple times with different groups, so I was slow comparatively.

Oh the glory days...

I am 34 years old, HS class of '99

My best sport was wrestling,
53-8, 8th in the state, division I

Football, I was OG/DE, started
for Bedford, MI.
I was 2nd team all region, and I think honorable mention all-state. Not bad for 5'10 1/2, 205.

Played in the same conference as Roethlisberger (and Charles Woodson, but he was before my time).

Interesting tidbit about Roethlisberger- his Jr. year (my Sr year), he was a WR... Switched to QB his Sr year.

I also vaguely remember Woodson scoring like 5 total TDs against my brothers squad... It was like watching tecmo bowl lol.

I used to run pretty well, mostly the 400 and 800. Glory days though? That's pretty much right now. Never stop progressing.

Being a CCS mod?

Yes.
I was always pretty good at running. I tried out for my HS football team when I was a freshman and I ran a 4.8 forty during the tryouts. I really wanted to be a receiver or DB. I was put at TE and MLB. I was only 5'7". Everyone else put at those positions were over six foot. I couldn't compete with my height, so I quit after that year. I just stuck to running and being an overall asshat to everyone else after that.

Hate that guy lol.

Cutler played safety his senior year as well as QB and led his defense with like 11 picks or something, shit's cray

Tried LB: Hated LB, playedSlot and TE. Tried out with one of the best junior college programs in nation(15 mins from my town, ran route trees, etc all summer.

Admingly knew I was in over my head and concentrated on school and transferring out instead. Many went on to transfer to DI schools. Wouldn't have been good for me lol. I woulda been a talented Rudy.

Also, I always wore #34 and legit had a small taped Bears logo(the C) cut out from a newspaper and on the back of my helmet. Legit every year made sure I got #34. I idolized Payton even though I didn't play RB.

I remember onetime I came on a inside crack block(sure the cult guys know all about the actual football aspects of game) on our best LB. I came and clocked him, obviously twice the size I kept shoving him and held him good. Our RB ran right behind me for a helluva good gain.

After he pulled past I lost my
Balance and legit got side slammed n picked up by the lb. Kicked my helmet, we got in a fight, and I got bragging rights. Shit was wild lmao.

Watching the tape in film room I was so proud i full on clocked this LB and got our RB past behind my block. Granted I got my shit rocked after he pulled past, but man was he pissed bc I just clocked the shit Outta him hahaha. I was 5'10 178 but worked out w my buddy Mark who if WASNT dumb as shit woulda got a offer to Wisconsin for O-Line. So I was strong and intense

This makes me miss football, man.

I legit still have a super tight hamstring from one time making a one handed catch in the endzone. I half jumped and my hamstring on way down just fucking tightened so bad. Like I literally couldn't move from the position it was in, which was by my butt. Ugh. Thought they were tearing t off when they came over to get me to move lol

I played left tackle in high school. #76 for 2 years then we got new jerseys that only went to #75 so i changed to #74. Started every varsity game my junior and senior years and made the all conference team my senior year.

Our coach had a philosophy that he didn't want any 2 way starters to keep guys fresher throughout the game so I got stuck on offense. Still think I could have maybe gotten to college as a DE or LB but we didn't have very many big guys so I was pretty much the default left tackle. Senior year I was 6'2 225 which was one of the biggest linemen on our team. But obviously not big enough to get noticed as a left tackle. Also ran a 4.7 40 which was pretty good I thought.

Ah well... the good old days. Now I'm sitting here at 32 still 6'2 but welll over 300lbs.

Wore 32 whenever 34 was taken. Played Safety, CB, WR, (but our QB couldn't throw for shit so we ran the ball 80 times a game) and one game I played DE, but only because of my speed. The fat asses on the line had zero chance to block me. I let the QB fake me out with some pump fakes so I never did get a sack in that game and he just rolled away from me the rest of the game. If our coaches were worth a shit they would have worked with me and settled me down and made me focus on just hitting the QB. That was back in the days where they just put you in positions and didn't really teach you any fundamentals. I watched football back then sporadically, but never analyzed it. (probably because the internet didn't exist and nobody in my family was into it.) My glory days (if you could even call it that) didn't come until I played intermural flag football in the Marine Corps... It was more of a rugby style than flag football style but still didn't have the collisions of modern day football. I averaged 3-4 sacks a game as an undersized DE. One year I separated my shoulder in the championship game against the Army Special Forces team in a collision with my counter-part DE and the QB. I happened to be extended just the right way I guess. The following year I tore my ACL during a training exercise and never played football again.

lol... sounds like some sad pathetic story... but oh well. My tenacity will never die and it will be instilled in my kids as they grow up. They will be twice the individual I ever was and I attribute that to all of my life experiences.

Wow...you guys had a film room in high school? Where did you go to school? You also neglected to mention what position you played. That scenario above sounds like TE or maybe a slot receiver.

My football experience was so bizarre. Football was the reject sport as basketball and baseball were far more popular and better teams. None of the real athletes wanted to risk that to play football in the fall...so my team was mostly made up of a lot of druggies and metalheads (think 1980's).

We smoked joints between scrimmages and our defensive coordinator was the drivers ed guy. I learned more about football watching it on television than I did in four years of HS football and no one was getting any college offers.

Ah sorry man, just meant in coaches office and the pe room; not a specific film room.
