I can't speak for anyone else, but the last time I donated a few extra drachmas I had to a GoFundMe account, it was for help with cancer treatment for a friend. I'm pretty sure it was legit since I saw her lose all of her hair, she got very thin & weak in the process, and her fiancee, a friend of mine for decades, was run haggard trying to take care of her between radiation and chemo and everything.

That and she died of it a year ago--almost to the day. If it was a ruse to get a BMW, I don't know how much more elaborate you can get.

In the case I aforementioned neither she nor her fiancee slammed anyone for not being able to help--and it's not like we didn't witness, in person, her dying of fucking cancer. Like I said--it would have been one elaborate hoax to see her deteriorate the way she did just for a BMW--up to and including her faking her own death.

People scamming charity, or charity shaming, is nothing new and certainly not relegated to FB or any other social media.

Like you I like to think of myself generous...but I have to watch out for me and my own 1st.
