I feel pretty confident going on a whim that Lawrence will be a pretty damn good QB lol. There’s almost no chance he busts. Almost 0. Can you say that about any other QB in this draft? He’s one of the most NFL ready prospects ever.

But I can see the argument that some of the other guys have almost as high a ceiling. This is definitely a great draft if you need a QB.
Thats what I was thinking. My comparison for his "floor" would be Alex Smith, and thats probably too high, like thats a very high floor, but he's somewhere in that range and will be considered a bust if he isn't better than Alex Smith.

His bigger/only concern is the long slight frame leading to injuries or leg accidents. Great reads, great arm, and seems more willing to engage in contact at the college level than Alex. He's a true #1 overall but I wish we could get our hands on Wilson or Jones too.

I don't think I'm going out on a limb, or giving some kind of hot take when I say that any list of the greatest QBs in the history of the NFL would include John Elway. Despite that, he just can't seem to be able to draft the position with any success. Given that fact, I don't think it's a stretch to say that nobody knows anything about finding a great quarterback.
Bill Walsh. Good resume though.
Andy Reid. Pretty good resume though. (Andy missed on Watson howerver, he said there was only one great QB in the Mahomes draft, but was around the Favre and McNabb processes as well) If you start talking about 2 Hall of Famers and some other good QB's with your finger prints on them you might know something.

I wouldn't count Gruden out either until he swings and misses here eventually.

Also...coaching/QB fits are alot like relationships. Its not good enough to both be good, you have to be a good fit so its about being able to spot the right guys for you from a coaching perspective rather than the hottest one.

Take notice of the QB he is talking to in the picture. If he had any say in choosing that QB I wouldn't believe a word he says.

Just from looking it up, and only because my man June is catching a bad rap in this thread, it appears that when he was with San Diego he was the interim HC after they fired Kevin Gilbride. Whether he, I imagine he was the OC, had any say in drafting Leaf is a whole other story.

Jones could do well with a strong O Line.

I realise the trend is for mobile QBs now but guys like Brady, Rivers and Ryan have done OK in the modern NFL. Unfortunately we don’t have a good O Line.

Brady has been amazing. Rivers and Ryan have accomplished nothing. Unfortunately the NFL is shifting a different direction with mobile QBs.

Ryan and Rivers have been really good QBs over their careers. Most teams would kill for that type of performance. Neither of them won the Superbowl, but to say they accomplished nothing is doing a disservice to how they have helped their teams.

ehh, its a hot take for sure.

I've been quoted as saying that I think Wilson will end up the best QB in this class. I like him as a qb prospect as much as any in recent memory.

Not sure I see what he see's in Jones to make him a better nfl prospect than Lawrence, tho.

I’d rather be January Jones than June Jones any team that wants to make the playoffs in the next 2 years would take Lawrence 1st easily

"[Jones is] a stronger-armed Jake Fromm," said one area scout. "He distributes the ball well to all those great weapons. Jones has some ability. His arm is good enough, a little stronger than Jake's. Mac can anticipate, and sees the field well. I think he could have a career in the NFL similar to Matt Barkley."

Matt fucking Barkley.

Watching Jones and Wilson tapes, one of my biggest question mark on both is how would they do with NFL pocket. Because there is a lot of throws of both of them where no one is around, in comparison in the NFL you have defenders right near your face or feet on a consistent basis.

Jones is a tough eval, because he is in a perfect situation. The NFL is tough you don’t go into every game being better than your opponent at everything.

GOAT HC? Check, 7 NC
NFL OC? Check, Sark offensive playing calling was money
Great Receiving? Potentially two Top 10 picks at WR, Metchie is a projected 1st rounder next season too.
Great OL? Leatherwoo, Brown, and Dickerson are Among the best at their position, the other two lineman at Bama will likely be very good eval in next year class.
Great RB? Check, Najee picks up 6 yards per Carry, and a beast in the passing game.

Tbf to Jones he is playing at such high level, and very good generally. On the flip side a guy like Justin Fields plays on the only team anywhere Bama talent, and I don’t think he performed like he should. If we hold Jones to that standard.

As Mike Tyson said “ Everyone has a plan until they get punched.” And the NFL will throw a lot of punches.

The most NFL ready since Andrew Luck. People who say differently are just overthinking it or trying to be different to be edgy. He's a no brainer.
