Greatest University?

This title is a little offsetting. Just because a school has a good sports program, it doesn't make it the "greatest university".

For example, I would rather go to Harvard, who hardly competes in sports, than West Virginia or Miami who both have great sports programs but aren't very prestigious schools.

Illinois basketball is one of the loudest and hardest places to play.

My school, Arizona is both

Football-10,000 strong student section for games which is the largest student section in the pac-10 beating out usc, ucla, etc. Student section is crazy as hell, we get loud and the fans in tucson have nothing else to cheer for except UofA, so they come in large numbers

Basketball- McKale center is probably the hardest place to play in west of the mississippi river. One of the most passionate student sections (Zona Zoo) in the country, and the great history of our basketball program surrounding us.

Ok, so these may not be the best, but in my mind, there is nowhere else to go to see great sports

So Duke Bball hasnt been consistently good? Im guessing you dont watch college basketball....

Duke has been the most dominant team probably for the last twenty years and IIRC, they have missed the tourney only twice in that span in the mid 90s...Duke had the most wins of any team in any decade ever in the 2000s

and we have 4 NCs...3rd most all time in basketball and 15 or so final fours

and ya we should have more than one championship in lax..Duke lax is great(dont bring up the rape crap please)

And maybe you havent noticed but Duke is beginning to get better at football

and they have won a couple of championships in non basketball or lax like in tennis last year

Duke also is probably academically wise overall the best school that competes in major athletics except for maybe stanford

Academics is a significant and sometimes forgotten part of what makes a university great..I mean HELLO...they didnt make a university for sports..universities have been around much longer than all of the major sports have....universities are for preparing students for the next level:whether its graduate school, a job,or med school, or whatever the heck they will do..i think especially now alot of people forget the student part of being a student athlete and its a real shame:ex. Kentucky and all their one and dones and cheating with Calipari
