Lucky assist for Morin, no skill involved. Not in the same zipcode.

Imagine if that kid actually had some ice time. He'd be Versteeg!

Good thing the Blackhawks haven't re-upped with Kane, yet.

May need some of that dough for Morin.

We've got lots of depth up and coming as well. McNeil, Danault, Teravainen. Forget how Morin fits, how does one of those guy break the roster next year?

You're both right. Olsen played his first game last night, but was in SA before that.

See that's what has got a pretzel in my head.

Assuming that these are grade A prospects, what the hell does Bowman do with them?

Either they're trade bait, or veterans are.

What vets could go?

Wouldn't it be fucking stupid to trade guys that you already know can win a 'Cup?

What did the Redwings do?

They kept a good balance on young and old until their last Cup win if I am correct. Also was a different type of game, when they were at the top. Today the game is so open and fast pace I feel there is more room for young guys to make an immediate impact.

Maybe. But the Blackhawks don't really have that many replaceable old guys.

I think the key is, and what Bowman did well after the 2010 cup, is building a core and not getting too attached to the parts around them. You have your top end talent that isn't going anywhere, and then you move the vets around them out and replenish from within. I'm sure they have a core established in their head and are expecting to part with anyone not in that group when the cap deems it necessary, and expect the prospects within the organization to fill that void. That starts the cycle over again, and once that player becomes too expensive they expect to have someone else take that spot.

They could. None of the guys in Rockford are any where near top 6. Your bottom 6 change every year to some extent.

Look at last nights line up. There were 12 Ice Hogs in that line up. That's how you win Championships, you use your depth.

And that is the perfect dilemma to be in. We all know how quickly things could change with any sort of bad luck, but this team is built to win for the foreseeable future. If prospects feel like they deserve to be in the show and not rotting in the AHL then they can demand a trade. That may be the best case for most of them. I imagine its horribly tough for the young guys being so close to a situation this good, yet in reality pretty far away.

I understand that.

But now that the Cadillac has been built, I'm not sure there are as many replaceable parts.

No room on defense. No room in the top nine.

I guess the 4th line and pressbox corp can be turned over, but then we're back to just bitching about 4th liners.

Seriously, the makeup of our team is crazy. All internal. I always tend to consider moves for prospects as guys "we developed in our system," since we were the ones to take the chance on them. So Morin, Leddy, Versteeg and in a way one could count Sharp as being "our guys" IMO.

But with everything said and done, Sharp, Oduya, Brookbank, Hossa, Handzus, Versteeg and Khabby are the only guys who really have had a taste for other NHL franchises. Thats very, very impressive. Now when you throw in that all of these guys (other than my guy Khabby) have one a cup here, there is some very good chemistry and feelings going around which is a huge recipe for success.

You kind of just answered your question. No room on D, no room in the top 9, and other than Hossa all of these guys are under 30...pretty much have to find something to complain about.

The Cadillac changes every year. Thus they continue to build around the core.

Just like Frolik went bye bye this year. Bolland, Emery.. ect ect....

Doesn't understand how they are building the team. Just like other teams are realing to build an organization emulating the Hawks.

This year, like the previous years, this team has needed a top 6 player. Looks to be filled right now with Pirri. But Mcneal, is there as a "prospect" as well. Denault? You build your team through you're prospects. The Core does not win it on it's own.

Now due to the massive depth some of those players may not want to wait (IE Morin pretty much said he was gone this year if he didn't get a shot) BUT if they continue to win Cups, be the ear mark for other NHL Organizations, those players might just stay for a chance to win.

I understand just fine. The team is already built. There isn't much tinkering needed with a championship roster.

My question was relative to all of this talent in the minors.

Not much room for them in the near future, as most players are locked up for 2-3 years.

You can replace a few folks ('Zus comes to mind).

But 1-9 forwards and 1-6 defense are locked up.

I agree that it's a nice problem to have.

And there is nothing wrong with that. If I were over 21 and felt like I could be making it in the NHL I would ask for a trade. If you are a skill player there is no sense wasting years here, go play every night in the NHL and get paid a whole lot more. Maybe in hindsight they will look back and think maybe they should have stuck around for a Cup, but we all know how fragile a prospects career is in any sport.

To me the time would be now if I am a guy like Morin, McNeil and there was interest from other NHL teams.

And some will. It's the nature of the beast. Some will want to play.

On the flip side do you really think a guy like Olsen, who will cearly be an NHL D man, would like to play in Florida, or wait for an opportunity to play in Chicago and actually have a chance to win?

At that point it's a player decision. But for a guy like Morin, who we can all agree has been NHL ready on MANY NHL Teams for a year or two, could get ice time on a winner.

It's all a time game. Jim is correct, but that's how the depth in minoris should be used.

Again there were 12 former Ice Hogs in the line up last night.

And CLEARLY the rest of the NHL has taken massive notice of the Blackhawks Organization on the Hockey Operations side. GM's from all over the NHL are trying to emulate exactly what they are doing and or have done. The West is watching it closer than the East and you can see it in the standings right now.

More than one NHL GM has said specifically that too.
