My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Real Salt Lake
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Utah Jazz
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Utah Utes
Would any of these guys be here today?

Jerry Angelo
Lovie Smith
Rex Grossman
Kyle Orton
Jay Cutler

Would the Cutler trade still happen? I would think it would, but would the team have never replaced Angelo with Emery?

Cutler might not because they probably wouldn't have found it as pressing to trade for him in 2009. But guaranteed Grossman and Orton would eventually be out the door.

Lovie would probably still be here. Superbowls are the only thing keeping Coughlin in NY and it would probably do the same for Lovie.

Angelo I have no clue on.

I doubt anything would have been different. These changes didn't come as a result of losing to the Colts, they came as a result of the decline from top contender to mediocre .500 pretender in 2007 and 2008 and beyond. Nothing about the 2008/2009 seasons would likely have been any different if the Bears had beat the Colts.

Lovie was canned because he missed the playoffs in 5 of 6 seasons from 2007-2012. That would still have been the case if he had won the SB in 2006. Coughlin still hasn't gone more than 4 seasons in NY without winning a title.

I wonder what a strong game and a win in that game would have done for Rex. Does that carry over into a far better 2007 season and another contract? Does that negate the Cutler trade?

Otherwise...the show looks pretty much the same. We win behind a strong defense and lose when it fizzles out.

I think the big difference is that we would hear less about the 85 Bears. Lovie would likely have a steakhouse and get the same enduring respect that Gruden and Dungy enjoy. Also, Peyton would be fighting the Jim Kelly comparisons.

You never know. Maybe the Bears ride the momentum from a SB win and have an excellent 2007 season.

I don't see why it would have made any difference. It wouldn't have made the 2007 Bears any better at football.

Technically what he said was correct... He has not gone more than 3 years without winning a title...3 non title seasons, 1 title season. 3 non title seasons,1 title season.

To the original question... It skips the most important Guy... Ron Rivera.
I bet Rivera stays On as d.c. rather than becoming the chargers linebacker coach.
The bears defense dropped from 5th in 06 to 28th in 07, and did not rebound till 2010.

If Rivera stuck, the bears d would have been far better, the Pressure on Grossman would not have been as intense, and I think we limp along With Grossman/orton till the Bears spend a pick on a QB.
The cutler trade smacked of desperation from Angelo- Not a commentary on cutler, but giving up that much for mundane talent was insanely out of character for Angelo. It smelled like a last ditch effort to field an offense after the defense shit the bed.

Without the defense getting screwed over, the bears might have had a couple more playoff berths and who knows what could have happened.

Probably not. Nine years is a long time. Especially nine years of mediocrity.

The White Sox won the World Series in '05, and no one's left from that team.

Because mental states do have a significant factor on humans... you know, that's why. Why there is frequent narratives about teams losing championships having a slump.

And in comparison, their talent levels aren't drastically lower than the team that beat them most of the time. They both do often lose some players to FA but that element is equal while the success of the teams isn't, and being a tiny bit better to win that game after already winning several playoff games isn't enough of a factor to saying why 1 team often succeeds fine the next year while the other frequently struggles.

Dan bauzien, Jarron Gilbert. The Gaines (God rest his soul) trade that lost us a second rounder and caused us to pay for Peppers. Chester Taylor, Michael Okwo. Jerry Angelo had to be fired man.

Right. He hasn't gone more than three seasons without winning a SB. More than three would be a minimum of four, and he's never gone four seasons without winning it because he wins it every four seasons.

EDIT: Didn't see airtime's post until after I posted.
