I think it should have been more, but since he is not known as a dirty player and this is a first time offense, it is hard to argue.

1 more then he deserved, IMO. Regardless, I wasn't concerned about Hansen.. my focus is on Hossa's ability to return asap!

I'm fine with the one game. My guess was 3 games so really not that big of a deal.

I believed that there was no intent with the hit but at the end of the day it was a "hit to the head of a defenseless player" which the league is trying to get rid of.

Time for Hossa to heal and the Blackhawks to focus on the Sharks.

Disagree with no intent, you don't try to catch a puck with your elbows, his palm didn't stay out... reckless at the very least.

Just because it was to the head it needs to be more than 1 game IMO, need to limit hits to the head as much as possible, 3 would have been more appropriate imo.

A game or more is necessary if the league is serious about getting these sort of hits out of the game. It may or may not have been an intentional hit, but it was none the less a reckless play. I personally believe that if a player is suspended for a dangerous play like this one, the team should lose that roster spot until the player gets back from suspension. That would give the teams some further incentive to not only have quality players on their roster, but also encourage them to make sure that they make good plays.

You always hate it when the guy getting hurt is your own player. But I think one game is fair, even just a $50k fine.

Now, if Hansen had a real track record of dirty hits, then the duration would change.

The bottom line is, you want to see the culture of intentional blind-side blows to the head or other vital locations dwindle down. If one game gets the message across, then all is good. Because we all know, the Hawks will find a way to retaliate the next time we meet.

For all we know, being dirty, it was a heat of the moment hit, and Hansen could have made some genuine amends with Hossa after the game. I doubt it, but it does happen from some players. Guys pull shit, cool off, regret their actions and find ways to remedy.

Not a dirty player?

Um yeh - that looks like what normally is called a track record. (Or a charge, or interference as well as a charge ).... so yeh that "I was going for the puck" thing... despite the lack of PIM for this clown -is basically also known as male bovine fecal matter.

However looking at the score in that one ... this is a jerk who takes cheap shots when his team is down. And sometimes cheapshots get called (if the refs have their head out...) which basically puts your team in a bigger hole ... this Hansen guy is a pinhead -and the perfect guy *not* to have on your team (something that the Canucks under Alain VainGlory don't really know much about.).

Isn't he the one that slashed Bolland, causing him to miss a game? Obviously not a hit and a completely different thing, but am I remembering correctly?

Dude, a fore arm shiver to the back of the head when he's not looking? Knowing a concussion put him out last year? I'd say this is some dirty ass shit.

I watched the game. I'm not from Chicago and even though i do root for the Hawks, I'm not a true fan and I'll say that that ****** Hansen should have been suspended at least three games. A nice fine of $100,000+ would be justified too. There is no way you can't say his hit was not intentional. He may not have wanted to seriously hurt Hossa but a forearm to the back of the head of a player that's not even looking? Pussy shit IMO.

Well okay. I didn't know he had a track record. Thanks for pointing it out. I watch most of the Hawks games, but I don't have time to put that much interest into the whole NHL. Like I said, if he had a track record, the duration should change. Well, he does have a track record, and I see that now. It's silly to get just one game.

But, if a Hawk did that to Hansen, he's tough & stuffz.

Just stop. Even Jay Zawaski didn't think it was that bad.

Ever think that maybe THAT is the problem?

Glad to think people think blows to the head are still OK in sports.
