It would've been just a day ago.

My grandma just had her 80th birthday a week ago; she went to high school on the south-side of Chicago waaaaaay back in the day with Red - said he had BIG feet!

You know what they say about big feet. At least in her day and age, it was code for confirming a certain something.

:troll:

RIP JRK. HBD too.

Ah, correction: Red's birthday is August 17th (not July 17th as I had in my mind for some reason). Nevertheless, it isn't too far away.

My grandma would never connect those dots :smh:

For you, it may be a blessing in disguise that she didn't go on to marry him.

:troll:

LOLers, okay, I'm done.

Had the chance to meet him in January 2005, when I was just 12 years old. R.I.P

Happy Birthday to Johnny Kerr.

Problem is, its not his Birthday, LMAO.
:rolling:
This thread is really weird.

I do however have to wonder if he's rolling in his grave because of Paxsons garbage picking.

Hmm, Jr. High perhaps??? Johnny Red Kerr attended High School at Tilden Technical, was a class mate of my fathers. Tilden was an all boys school near Midway Airport. Dad was on the Wrestling team, their pre season work out was with the Basketball team due to seasons coinciding. Pop's knew Johnny fairly well. Think either you're grandmother or my father was lying. Heh. Hmm, wonder if he transferred into Tilden. Back in the day, Dad said Tilden won all the boys state championships. 1200 boys split even down racial lines. Fight a day, Dad would say. Can't ask him now as he passed two years ago. Wikipedia states Tilden was all boy from 1918 until the 1960's.

My memory of my conversations with dad are a little vague now, he had alzheimers for 10 years or so before passing, so my lucid convo's are from long ago... But, I think he mentioned that an all girls Catholic school was located near by Tilden, and that the dating scene between the two schools was... "healthy". Perhaps that is the connection?

By the time I was born, our family had moved to the north side (block from Evanston) so I am not familiar with the area personally. I am going to need to have my grandma re-tell me that story so I can get some specifics straight and get back to this topic afterwards.

How about you show some respect and actually get the guy's birthday right. Sheesh.

I consider it respect that I remembered enough that his 80th birthday was coming up in 2012 and knew that it was one of these two months.

Trolling a thread meant to give the man respect = disrespect.

Proclaiming "Happy Birthday" to a deceased person on the wrong date = disrespect

^*ironically, tells me to not disrespect Johnny Red Kerr*

A relative of mine was Red Kerr's "nemesis" in college. Its kind of funny, because even though he was much better than Kerr, pro basketball at that time paid next to nothing so he never played professionally.

^*proceeds to disrespect Johnny Red Kerr*

I didn't tell you "not to disrespect" Johnny Kerr. You are free to do whatever you want, which includes making an ass of yourself in this forum on a daily basis.

I said that proclaiming happy birthday to a deceased person on the wrong date is disrespectful...because it is. If you can't understand that, then thats on you. If you are too lazy/stupid to actually know or look up Kerr's birthday, then that is disrespectful on your part.

I don't know how I "disrespected" Johnny Kerr....thats just you trolling again.

A) You're stupid. That is not disrespect to mess up someone's birthday, who is not even related to you, which you thought you had memorized. Especially before the day even happens. PS- I knew the year.

B) You directly undermined the man with your post. Red was one of the pioneers of Chicago basketball. Trying to point out his short-comings is blatant disrespect.
