Here's my story.
After I got out of the USAF like 20 yrs ago, I hung around the midwest for a bit, mostly in Nebraska, but came back home to IL for a little bit. One of my friends lived down here, had recently divorced and was like "hey, you should come down here, I've got room and it would be fun". At the time I was doing freelance work, was looking for a change of scenery so I was like "why the **** not".
Was here for like a week, and my buddy went out of town for the night with his new girlfriend so had the place to myself but didn't really know anyone yet, with the exception of one of our other Air Force friends that had also relocated to the Orlando metro.
So I give him a ring and asked him if he wanted to hang out. "Sure, that would be great...I'll bring some shrooms over". Mind you at this point in my life I'd messed with psychadelics like once or twice. But enjoyed it in the past, so why the **** not.
We are having a good ol time, watching the original Tron, talking about crazy shit, tripping our balls off.
And then a nasty thunderstorm came through and knocked the power out.
After about 15 mins of sitting around in the dark trying to find candles or flashlights to no avail, my buddy was like "**** this, I'm out". I would have left with him and gone and hung out somewhere else, but I had just moved down, so we hadn't made a spare key yet, and I didn't want to leave his place unlocked.
So I sat there, in a totally new place, alone, in the dark, with no AC (it was July in FL) sweating my balls off and getting freaked out by every little sound (either real or imagined). I ended up going outside on the back screened in patio which was incrementally cooler with the breeze for a few hrs until I came down enough to be able to sleep.
Was not a great experience.
But I still love shrooms and go down that road once every few years. I generally notice a heightened state of well being that hangs around for several weeks (sometimes longer) after doing it. I'm really glad they are exploring this stuff for PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc because I've definitely experienced those benefits first hand.
