Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions/Rumors

Bryan Bickell apparently signed a 3-year deal. No info on caphit.

Do the Hawks go nuts and become buyers again when/if Huet is sent to Rockford? And with him gone and the $4M bonus clause cap hit for this year also coming off the books for next off-season, Hawks should really be a reloaded force again for 2011-12 (even with Seabs and Brouwer getting re-upped).

Nope, no buyers, the minimal space we have left now is with him already gone.

Can we all just agree to rejoice to the fact that Curtis Brown is finally off the books? Or was that last year?

I think that was last year it went off the books.

The Bickell signing is very good. Cheap caphit for 3 years. I like what I saw in his limited visits on the big club last year. Has size and grit which the lineup needed. And hopefully he will pot a few goals as well.

Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions/Rumors

Jessiman has yet to play in a NHL game. He is the only first rounder (12th overall) from 03 that hasn't had a single game. Everyone except Blues #30 overall pick (Shawn Belle, 11 games) has over 100 games played.

Will this be the year he breaks out? What were NYR thinking when they drafted this guy?

LOL!

He is currently the only first round pick from 2003 to not play in an NHL game.

Rockford is going to be very interesting this year.

I remember when the Rangers drafted that guy, the announcer on TSN said "Do you know what this guy's nickname is? "Huge Speciman".

Looks like the Rangers drafted him solely based on his physical stature. Remember, the game was different in 2003. They hadn't instituted the new rules back then. Perhaps he would have been a great player in the old clutch and grab era.

Hawks eyeing Theodore

7:33AM ET

Jose Theodore | Capitals

The Chicago Blackhawks know there is a distinct possibility they may not be able to afford the arbitration award for Antti Niemi. So the plan is probably to accept the one-year contract and trade Niemi elsewhere.

If that's the case, the Blackhawks have a backup plan: Jose Theodore. This is according to the French-language Canadian paper, La Presse, (via ESPN Boston's James Murphy) and it makes some sense, considering Theodore would likely sign for around $1 million. He would probably share the job with Corey Crawford, who competed with Niemi for the backup job last preseason.

If Theodore goes to Chicago, that means they're passing on Marty Turco. And that probably means Turco will try to sign on with the Nashville Predators, who may be the only other team seeking a goalie.

As for Niemi, he could stay with the Hawks if his arbitration award is less than $2.5 million. But anything more, then the Hawks will have some tough decisions to make.

- Alvin Chang
AAAAHHHHAHAHAH And for all you non-bandwagoners, remember the big fuss that was made back slightly pre-Huet about McD wanting Theodore..... And no I don't believe everythign I read...
