Thank god the season was salvaged, now what are the Hawks gonna look like?

I'd like to see Sadd make the team and get a solid 15-17 minutes a night. One would assume Shaw is a shoe in to be on the team, but the other prospects seem to have to prove they belong.

From the looks of it the defense is a total clusterfuck,

Seabrook-Keith

Hammer-Leddy

Oduya-Rosizval

Olsen-Brookbank-Montador

The Brookbank signing is still mind boggling to me, as Olsen showed a lot of great signs last year. Montador is apparently done as a Hawk, either way, from the looks of things Bowman needs to be reminded 6 D-men play per game.

All in all, what is everyone expecting for line wise for this team?

From the sounds of it, Leddy may stay in the AHL for now.

Quite frankly, Ben Smith should feel rightly slighted and insulted that Shaw and Bollig got called up before him. Shaw I would say has at least earned an invite and looksee but not BEFORE Smith IMO. Bollig? Ugggh. Smith's done nothing but come back from that knee surgery last year, hustle, and been one of the very few consistently bright spots for the Hogs all season along with St. Pierre (<---who though not Hawks property has clearly earned a look IMO) and Pirri in terms of the Forwards corps. Smith's fucking EARNED an invite. I'm going to assume that Kruger, Shaw, Bollig aren't going to be the only invites as the week goes on---that they're allowing Rockford time to fill any call-up gaps both with the players reassigned from Toledo yesterday and perhaps others because otherwise no Smith invite makes no sense. JHayes, Morin, and Saad---they realistically can keep their asses in Rockford IMO until they prove more reliably consistent in their play and primarily in pts. production.

not a fan of Leddy, does not seem to get over the hump.

I think Leddy has noticeably improved with his time in Rockford and has especially looked good the past month. It didn't look so promising in the beginning of the Hogs season but at some point he turned a bit of an AHL corner as far as I am concerned. Maybe as the lockout dragged on and on he finally gave up the ghost or whatever. IMO, he's at least earned an invite to camp. If he doesn't warrant an invite then fine Hakws and I can understand making him finish out the AHL season but then conversely their asses better not give an invite to Clendening either. I don't care how many pts. Clenny is racking up as a rookie Dman or how shiny bright impressive they look on the AHL stats page, he's a fucking disaster in his own zone.

Stalberg/Toews/Kane

(open spot)/Sharp/Hossa

Bickell/Bolland/Frolik

Carcillo/Kruger/Mayers

Keith/Seabrook

Hjalmarsson/Leddy

Oduya/Rozsival

That open spot should be Smith, Shaw, Saad, Morin, or J. Hayes in that order -- or better yet, bring up Pirri and move Sharp to LW. If Leddy is kept in the AHL (I doubt that lasts) I'd like to see Clendening come up and take his place. The goalie situation is obviously locked in so no point in going there.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
To me, Brookbank is essentialy a right-handed version of Hammer that actually hits things more than once every 3 or so games. I would be thinking after Hammer's play last year that he's on the block and Brookbank comes in as a 5-6 and PK'er. I think Rosival was Monty's replacement.

Olsen showed some promise but our D was lamer than Breast-reduction surgery last year so some vet presence might help. I would call him at Slot-7 with definite potential to oust a vet if needs be.

I like the line-up but I'd rather not see Bickell anywhere.

Seriously? Then Q and his Assistants would be basing having Olsen as their 7th on faery dust hope and pixie wishes because they couldn't possibly have seen him so far in Rockford and think they could trust him with that slot IMO. And they have been to almost all home games because of the lockout. He's been underwhelming at a minimum and brutal at a max IMO. . .and that's when he's not being healthy scratched on the regular.

I don't see Brookbank as a replacement for Hammer, just two different styles. The kid in Rockford Dahlbeck could be a similar player though in a year or two as Hammer.

I still like Hjalmarsson, I'd rather see Montador go and possibly Oduya if anyone from the D has to go. I'll give Rozsival a pass considering he hasn't played with the team yet and I'm interested in seeing what he can do. IMO Hjalmarsson is our only top-four defenseman outside of Keith and Seabrook.

True, Bickell just irks me though.

I don't blame you, not enough fire from shift to shift. He could do good things, but it's just inconsistent. Good news is that in a contract year, we'll be seeing more of the good than the bad and I think that makes him worth playing until/unless he proves he's complete garbage.

Bickell/Bolland/Frolik

Carcillo/Kruger/Mayers

Keith/Seabrook

Hjalmarsson/Leddy

Oduya/Rozsival

God that lineup is not intimidating at all (not the physical sense). Obviously any line with Kane and Toews is gonna tough to play against, but theres too many players that are being forced into this lineup that don't fit. Stalberg doesn't belong with Toews and Kane, or on any top line in the NHL period. We desperately need something consistent in this offense. Frolik is horribly inconsistent as is Bickell, and although I don't think Kruger should be on this team, if he were NHL ready, he's not a 4th line center....thats just the offense.

I'd love to see:

Hayes-Stalberg/Toews/Kane

Saad/Sharp/Hossa

Shaw/Bolland/Bickell

Carbomb/Mayers/Hayes

Keith-Seabrook

Hammer-Leddy

Rosival-Olsen

While that is FAR from happening, I would like to see it. Oduya can go elsewhere, his 3,838,000 cap hit should be bought out anyway with the new amnesty rules, but it looks like he's here to stay. I see no problem letting Olsen develop into the defenseman we drafted him to be. I really hope Hammer can step up his game this year, and the coaching staff cannot play Leddy 20+ minutes a night, a little managing of his TOI would have gone a long way last year.

Stalberg was awesome with Toews last season... I don't see how he can't hang with the top line (if Pirri can make an impact, I'd like to see Sharp moved up to 1st line LW and Stalberg bumped to 2nd line LW). Saad isn't much of a top six forward even on Rockford...I'd rather see Shaw or Smith given the opportunity first, Saad should develop in Rockford, Morin might even be a better fit. I like Pirri over Kruger but Pirri isn't a 4th line center and unless the Hawks bring him up as the 2nd line center I would rather him be on the IceHogs. I don't mind Shaw in the line-up but I think they will give Bickell every opportunity.

Our slots at LW suck, outside of Stalberg we don't have another top six LW unless one of our youngsters can claim that spot or if Sharp is moved there.

Bickell should get a chance until he proves he isn't cut out for it. He had one good year and last year was a bad year, we'll find out if he can bounce back.
