You know now that I think about things what actually has me furious is how devalued the term "fact" has become ... as "some guys said" - not only isn't a fact, it isn't even substantiated.

Has the term 'fact' really diminished in standard meaning that much?

If taking stupid penalties is an upgrade over Scott - then I think some of you missed some of the finer points of Eager's game.

Now you can argue that Scott wasn't on the ice enough to have done so -but you can actually verify Eager's track record -and it was such that got him moved out of Atlanta last season as well... the guy seems to have some issues with personal discipline and playing situation hockey.

In short, you got a guy with a short fuse, and takes selfish penalties- hardly an upgrade ... I doubt there is any interest in bringing that back to the team. And also something that you will find more often on teams that lose -with good reason, they put their team at a disadvantage--- otoh, the team they are on will get some extra penalty killing time (for no real reason).

Eager can skate, fight & chip in offensively.

Scott brings nothing to the table except beating a guys ass.

Yeah, the overpayment threat is real, but I'd take overpayment over too-long contracts and I think the front office sees things that way too. Huet and Campbell situations will never happen here again.

A 2nd center is absolutely a top need here. Some toughness up front (4th line) and at least one more solid defenseman (dependable, not great) are the others. Problem is that a legit 2nd line center is harder to find than the other two areas that need addressing.

I would not be surprised at all to see the team go into the season without really addressing the center need... instead hoping to see if a healthy Hossa can really dominate and essentially carry that 2nd line on his shoulders for a while. If that falls flat, look for either a dealine deal or for them to make a splash in next year's off season.

I know that doesn't sound appealing (especially right now), but I think the front office is not looking to over-react to any needs right now.

But hey- anything can happen at any time. The Hawks are a top destination right now with money to spend and roster spots to fill. I THINK they're going to be conservative, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The projections on which way they are going to go this offseason going into this season can go so many ways. The 2nd line center is going to be tough, but I am concerned about the team not getting better.

What I like about Eager is that he can play a bit. Scott is virtually useless unless his gloves are off, not that I want to dump him. Keep Scott and dress him when a goon is needed....Eager can play regular. Its a big difference.

At center, they are really lacking in depth. I think Bolland can hold his own but he's been pretty brittle himself. They need to add more than one more center unless one of the kids like Kruger or somebody else steps up.

I think you got Eager confused with an actual hockey player somewhere along the line.

Plus I'll go further, based upon prior observations on your part on these boards, I can fully guarantee you and the board here in general that if Mr Eager were to ever rejoin the Hawks, that you'd eventually have a problem with the guy - and I am basing this on some of the problems that you have had in the past with other guys ..

ie - can't score a point per game, can't fight, takes stupid penalties, can't skate, can't pass, isn't a goal scorer (as iirc - there was some sort of issue confusing assists not = goals for the team last season), can't check (ie - in the sense of say stick checking, eg poke checking, etc), doesn't block shots, does drop the gloves, but generally doesn't win that often...

But, whatever- I just wanted that out there earlier rather than later.

its not even about not getting richards which i knew was a stretch, but the fact that we are looking at grinder non skilled tough guys is fucking stupid. if they want to bring ex hawks back, than go get Ladd, and actual player who can play and make a fucking difference.

I'd prefer someone better, although Eager will go to the corners and battle. It appears as if they're planning on getting a few of these type guys. We were far too easy to play against.

I think they'll get a skilled guy as well, Dews.

forget about not getting richards for a second, but the fact that they are looking at eager has me fucking furious. this was so predictable and I was hoping to be wrong when I thought the hawks were going to try to get a grindy fire and passion guy who likes to fight sometimes. the game of hockey has changed since the ciccarelli/domi days and it is a much more finesse and wide open scoring game that guys like this are a waste of roster space. **** that!

But he won the Cup. :shifty:

Im really hoping Stan spends money on a 2nd line center....a 2nd line center, 2 grindy forwards (such as a eager type) and a 3rd pairing dman (sopel?) and we will be good!

I hope...
